NYU GPA requirement There's no minimum GPA you need to apply to NYU. But the applicants who actually get admitted tend to have strong GPAs. As you might remember from our NYU Common Data Set post, 21% of enrolled first-year NYU students had a perfect 4.0 GPA in high school.

NYU of course is looking for strong grades, testing, extracurriculars like many of the schools of that level. What I think sets NYU apart is that they want students to be open to stepping out of the lines.

This makes NYU Strongly Competitive for GPAs. (Most schools use a weighted GPA out of 4.0, though some report an unweighted GPA. With a GPA of 3.69, NYU requires you to be above average in your high school class. You'll need a mix of A's and B's, with a leaning toward A's.
At Harvard GPA is Not Important Unless it is Very High or Very Low. As you can see, the acceptance rate between 3.0 and 3.79 is relatively flat. GPA only seems to have any impact if you are above 3.8 or below 3.0. The acceptance rate for Harvard is higher in the 3.0 to 3.39 range than 3.4 to 3.79.
The following requirements apply to all courses taken outside of NYU: The outside institution must be accredited. Grades earned must be C or better for undergraduate courses. Pass/fail courses are not acceptable under any conditions.
NYU is not one of the eight Ivy League schools. However, its top-notch academics and athletics are considered at par with those of Ivy Leagues. It's due to this why NYU is part of the so-called New Ivies, a group of schools that may not be as elite as the Ivy Leagues but are nonetheless prestigious.
You should also have a 4.18 GPA or higher. If your GPA is lower than this, you need to compensate with a higher SAT/ACT score. For a school as selective as Harvard, you'll also need to impress them with the rest of your application. We'll cover those details next.

For every 100 applicants, only 16 are admitted. This means the school is extremely selective. Meeting their GPA requirements and SAT/ACT requirements is very important to getting past their first round of filters and proving your academic preparation.

In order to be competitive as an applicant, you'll need to have near-perfect grades, excellent test scores, and standout essays.
According to our research, the 25th percentile accepted unweighted GPA at Harvard is 3.80. If your GPA is much lower than this, you mostly likely don't have much a of a chance of admission regardless of the rest of your portfolio or the reasons behind the lower grades.
Although there are no formal NYU GPA requirements, you'll have to keep your grades and NYU SAT scores high to compete with the low NYU acceptance rate. Aim to graduate in the top 10% of your high school. Class rank is important in light of the low acceptance rate and NYU enrollment.
To stand out from other competitive applicants and have strong NYU admissions odds, your child should focus on three main areas of achievement throughout high school—academic rigor, high test scores, and in-depth extracurricular activities.
Dartmouth is the smallest Ivy, with a total enrollment of about 7,000 students. Meanwhile, Columbia and Harvard enroll the most students of any Ivy, with over 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
Columbia is part of the Ivy League which is considered very prestigious in the US and abroad. Because Columbia has a lower admission rate than NYU, there is a general perception that Columbia is more prestigious than NYU. However, personal fit is much more important than prestige.

@Anonymous8, unfortunately, it's pretty unlikely that you will pass the academic threshold and even have the rest of your application considered at Harvard if your unweighted GPA is under a 3.8.
