What do I use underneath a Happy Nappy? The Happy Nappy reliably protects against leaks into the pool without the need for any other under nappy. However, we do recommend wearing a Nappy Wrap and Liners with the Happy Nappy, to help you with changing and cleaning should an accident occur.
The Happy Nappy Wetsuit offers a 2-in-1 solution without the need for added nappy protection. It will keep baby warm in the water but is more restrictive due to the sleeves. The Baby Wrap is less restrictive as it keeps arms and legs free, allowing baby to really feel the water and move about comfortably.
Swim nappies have one main purpose: to prevent faecal matter from entering a pool. Many people do not initially realise that swim nappies do not actually hold urine but this is one thing that they are not designed for.
In general, it's important to change a nappy after each poo, but not necessarily after every wee (more on that below). Regardless, you can certainly anticipate quite a few nappy changes in the first year of your little one's life!
The Happy Nappy should fit your little one comfortably and there should be no under nappy on show. This will ensure that the seal between the first nappy isn't broken. TIP: You should be able to fit two fingers held flat inside the waistband and the leg cuffs.
Even though swim diapers and swim pants might hold in some solid feces, they are not leak proof. Swim diapers can delay diarrhea-causing germs, like Cryptosporidium, from leaking into the water for a few minutes, but swim diapers do not keep these germs from contaminating the water.
Swim nappies are a must
No baby is going to enjoy the experience if they're waterlogged in their standard nappy. Most pools wouldn't allow them in wearing those anyway. Instead, buy specific swim nappies – available in most big supermarkets or chemists – and a suitable swimsuit, trunks or wetsuit.
What is the difference between the Happy Nappy Duo and the Happy Nappy? Both the Happy Nappy and the Duo work in the same way to protect against leaks into the pool. The Happy Nappy Duo has the added benefit of an inbuilt under nappy that helps to keep solids inside. Your swim school may require a double nappy system.
They don't hold wee because then as soon as you want in the water, they would hold art the water. So would be full when any wee came along anyway. What about a cloth booster in a swim nappy.
Swimming nappies (reusable or disposable) to wear underneath a Happy Nappy. Happy Nappy (neoprene nappy) to wear over the top of the swimming nappy. For children; swim trunks, swimsuit, or eczema suits are fine, but if not toilet trained will need double nappies underneath. Wet wipes and cream for changing.
If your child suffers from their skin rubbing against their wetsuit, then a rash vest can be worn underneath the wetsuit to protect their skin. They can also be worn on their own with a swimsuit or boardies to protect them from the sun. This can be especially useful in warmer climates.
Swim diapers are designed to withstand water and contain solids. They aren't meant to absorb. Yep, that means pee will pass through to the water.
Unlike regular nappies, swim nappies do not absorb liquids and can therefore be used while submerged in water. Swim nappies help to contain solids and are therefore a great help if your little one poops while swimming. Normal nappies are designed to be absorbent to keep your baby dry when they pee.
You can take your baby swimming at any age, both before and after they have been vaccinated. It does not matter if they have not yet completed their course of vaccinations. Babies sometimes experience side effects after a vaccination. These are generally quite mild and should not stop you taking your baby swimming.
Standard swimming costumes are fine, but must be worn with a swim nappy to avoid accidents in the pool. For peace of mind, choose baby swimwear with an integrated swim nappy, as these are designed to prevent faeces leaking into the pool. Alternatively, use a reusable swim nappy with your child's usual swimming costume.
Designed to move with your baby as they kick and splash, with no gaping, the Happy Nappy fits snugly on the waist and thighs, with specialist fabric forming a secure seal that will hold in solids.
Put on disposable gloves. Remove the poop using a net or bucket. Do not vacuum the poop from the pool. Clean as much poop as possible from the item used to remove the poop and dispose of it in a sanitary manner.
Size up. The obvious thing to do is to size up! If your baby's nappy is leaking at night and certainly if it's happening during nap time, it may be time to get a bigger sized nappy to hold in all that extra wee!
Nappy size guides
Brands may have different size guides but generally speaking, they work like this: Size 0 (1-2.5kg, 2-5lbs) Size 1 (2 -5kg, 5-11lbs) Size 2 (3-6kg, 7-14lbs)
“Many newborns will wake naturally when they poo,” she says. If baby's still snoozing, you might be able to get them cleaned up without totally rousing them. Keep the lights low and the room quiet, and move slowly and calmly. If you can skip the trip down the hall to the nursery change table, that could help, too.
If your baby is often dirty after a feed, to avoid the disturbance of having to change their nappy twice, it would be better to change the nappy after the feed. If your baby has reflux, they may vomit if they are moved too much with a full tummy, so you might like to change them before a feed.
Disposable diapers often come with a built-in indicator to let you know if your baby has peed or not. The color will usually change from yellow to blue or even pink, making it clear that the diaper is wet.
