When you've applied dye to your leather, apply pigment sealer to ensure it is properly sealed. This helps to seal dye, and prevent dye from rubbing off. It's possible to avoid dye rub off, even with oil based dyes, waster based dyes or black dye.
After dyeing, use one of the many Angelus finishers. Please remember that dye is meant to be permanent. Once applied it may be difficult or impossible to remove. Each bottle comes with a wool dye applicator and the box can be converted into a holder for the bottle while you work.

When a leather is coated with a coloured paint or varnish, either by a roller or by glueing a coloured foil on top, after a few years (sometimes less) of use, you will likely find that this layer either wears away or peels off.
How long must the paint be left to dry? We recommend letting each coat dry for 10-25 minutes; the final coat should be left to dry for 24 hours.
Differences. Paint sits on the surface of leather, while dye penetrates leather. Leather paints are chiefly acrylic, while dyes are either spirit (alcohol) or oil based.

If you are working in great detail or need a precise finish, leather paint is a better option. You can use fine-point markers and small brushes to create intricate finishes.

Vegetable-tanned leather
The dye in aniline leather or the pigment-based coatings on finished leather fade, causing the surface to become lighter. In the case of uncoloured vegetable-tanned leather, it behaves differently. The leather darkens by light. And the darkness can fade with time.
The leather itself, if it is 100% genuine, should never peel. There is no part of the material that will come away from the rest in a peeling fashion (apart from surface treatments). Leather can degrade and become more fragile, however, if it dries out and is not cared for correctly.
It is not uncommon for leather dye to “bleed” especially if the item is not dyed with the drum-dye process. Leather dyes will bleed from the material if the garment gets wet. This bleeding is normal and will occur only for a short period of time.
