By the end of the novel, after Daisy's murder of Myrtle as well as Gatsby's death, she and Tom are firmly back together, "conspiring" and "careless" once again, despite the deaths of their lovers.
Myrtle believes that the only reason Tom will not divorce Daisy is because Daisy is Catholic. But we learn that Tom's feelings for Myrtle are far less intense than he has led her to believe and that social pressure prevents him from ever leaving Daisy, who comes from a similar upper-class background.
Daisy seems unhappy with her marriage to Tom from the outset of the novel. Even the night before their wedding, she got drunk and told Jordan to tell everyone she had changed her mind.
At the end of the novel, only Tom and Daisy remain together, unscathed by the novels many tragedies and disappointments.
Daisy proves her real nature when she chooses Tom over Gatsby in Chapter 7, then allows Gatsby to take the blame for killing Myrtle Wilson even though she herself was driving the car. Finally, rather than attend Gatsby's funeral, Daisy and Tom move away, leaving no forwarding address.
Soon after the wedding, Daisy became pregnant, and Tom started to have affairs with other women. Jordan tells Nick that Gatsby has asked to be invited to his house at a time when Daisy is also present.
In "The Great Gatsby," Daisy chooses Tom over Gatsby because Tom represents stability and security to her. Although she is in love with Gatsby, he is seen as a risky choice, and she ultimately decides to stay with Tom, who represents the status quo.
Tom's Backstory
Daisy's very much in love with him at first. But just after their South Seas honeymoon is over, he cheats on her with a maid at the Santa Barbara hotel they're staying at, beginning a pattern of infidelity that we see continued in the novel (4.143).
Daisy does not want to be seen attending Gatsby's funeral because she does care about her reputation, despite the fact that she has never loved Tom. As a result, she makes the decision to abstain out of concern that she will damage both her connection with Tom and her standing in the eyes of the general public.
Daisy's finger has been hurt by her physically powerful husband Tom, although she says it was an accident. The novel contains several other accidents, and numerous allusions to the role of accidental occurrences in human life.
However, Gatsby forces them to confront their feelings in the Plaza Hotel when he demands Daisy say she never loved Tom. Although she gets the words out, she immediately rescinds them—"I did love [Tom] once but I loved you too!"—after Tom questions her.
In that novel, Nick loves Gatsby, the erstwhile James Gatz of North Dakota, for his capacity to dream Jay Gatsby into being and for his willingness to risk it all for the love of a beautiful woman. In a queer reading of Gatsby, Nick doesn't just love Gatsby, he's in love with him.
Daisy isn't really talking about—or weeping over—the shirts from England. Her strong emotional reaction comes from the excitement of Gatsby having the proper wealth, and perhaps remorse over the complexity of the situation; he is finally a man she could marry, but she is already wed to Tom.
The relationship between Tom and Daisy is built more on money rather than love, however, there is little bits of love. Daisy marries Tom because of his wealth, but throughout their relationship she does, fall in love with Tom at least once.
At the end, she's left with a man who thinks too much of her and a man who thinks too little of her. She chooses the latter, since she can't measure up to the former. Once again, we see her make the weaker choice—a choice many people would've made.
Pammy is Daisy and Tom's daughter.
Henry C. Gatz, Gatsby's father, comes to the mansion three days after his son's death, aged and wearing plain clothes. He's grief-stricken and asks Nick what his relationship was with Gatsby. Nick says they were close friends.
Gatsby's funeral is ironic because only three people attend, while enormous crowds attended his parties. Despite being a popular figure in the social scene, once Gatsby passes, neither Daisy, his business partner Henry Wolfsheim, nor any of his partygoers seem to remember him or care.
Nick, disillusioned by Gatsby's death, recognizes the amoral behaviour of the old-money class and becomes aware that the American Dream which Gatsby believed in cannot be saved from the decadence. Detailed answer: Nick Carraway was basically Gatsby's only friend who really cared for him.
Gatsby's obsession with recovering a blissful past compels him to order Daisy to tell Tom that she has never loved him.
Daisy is a beautiful fool, she knows about Tom's affair, but doesn't say anything just so to keep that image of an ideal happy family. Daisy thought she had love when she married Tom, but in reality it was for his money.
Tom betrays his wife Daisy when he has an affair with a woman named Myrtle. The second betrayal is Gatsby betraying himself. Jay Gatsby could have easily been a very successful man and could have done a lot of great things with his life.
Representation. Pammy most likely represents a younger version of Daisy. Daisy wishes that her baby girl will be a fool like her so she ends up married and well off with a rich man. She also wants her daughter to be a fool so she is protected.
But Daisy can never be happy with Tom because when she married him, she objectified him into the things he gave her; the expectations of Tom that she constructs in her head are mostly made of the gifts she has received, rather than Tom's actual personality and morals.
Is Gatsby Richer than Tom? While both characters are rich, it is implied in the novel that Tom has more money. However, at that time, what most people cared about was how you would get your money. Gatsby is still involved in organized crime secretly- meaning that he is technically working to keep his status.
