Scripture shows that God is not concerned with what career you choose (unless, of course, it's in direct disobedience to His revealed will in Scripture, such as prostitution) as He is about how you work at your career. As Gary Friesen shares in his book, your work is to be characterized by: Sincerity of heart (Eph.
"Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ." That's why you often hear Christians say they want to do their best at whatever they do.
In fact, He blesses us with the ability to work so that we can honor Him. Colossians 3:22 says, “You who are servants who are owned by someone, obey your owners.
So, if you believe you are ready to change your situation with a new job or even a new career path, by all means, ask God for help; pray for it. God will probably let you know if He agrees.
But Satan planned to turn the God-fearing Job away from God and wanted Job to fall into disbelief and corruption. Therefore, God allowed Satan to afflict Job with distress and intense illness and suffering, as God knew that Job would never turn away from his Lord.
God's purpose for work is to relate and interact with us and make us more like him. It's not that the work is not important; it's that to Him we are more important. He is patient with us, like a Father with a toddler who wants to help, so that His work in us is done while He accomplishes His purposes in the world.
God wants us to depend on him rather than our job, and look to him for all that we need. There are countless promises that God will provide for our needs (Psalm 84:11, Matthew 6:32–33, Philippians 4:19).
At the same time, the Bible also says that God will have work for us in heaven — and we ought to be glad for this. After all, if all we did in heaven was sit around with nothing to do, we'd get very bored. The Bible says, “His servants will serve him” (Revelation 22:3).
Make decisions based on the word of God. A sure way to know that something is NOT the will of God is that is DOES NOT align with His word! If what we feel or think God is telling us goes against the Word of God then we can be SURE that it is not God's will and not from God.
God, our Father, I turn to you seeking your divine help and guidance as I look for suitable employment. I need your wisdom to guide my footsteps along the right path, and to lead me to find the proper things to say and do in this quest.
The good news is that God knows the future. The future is in His hands and under His control. Some Christian teachers have questioned this in recent years. Their idea is that the future is shaped by our choices, and that even God can't know the future until these choices are made.
To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life – this is indeed a gift from God” (Ecclesiastes 5:19).
Seek to become “a greater follower of righteousness” (Abraham 1:2). And “press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men” (2 Nephi 31:20).
2 Thessalonians 3:10-12
“Even when we were with you we were giving you this command: 'If anyone doesn't want to work, they shouldn't eat.' We hear that some of you are living an undisciplined life. They aren't working, but they are meddling in other people's business.
He believed in God, but he struggled with God, so he poured out his questions and his complaints. Job wasn't the only believer to complain like this. Some of the Psalms express similar questions and complaints to God.
To gain Christ we must accept the necessary losses. Paul said, “For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.” Nothing is more valuable than Christ, therefore no amount of suffering that draws us closer to Christ is too great a sacrifice to make.
Praying for the Right Career Choice
“Dear God, I come to You because You are all-knowing and always want the best for me. Today, I'm looking for guidance and understanding about which career path is the best for me. I am aware that my understanding is limited, but You understand everything.
GO TO GOD IN PRAYER.
If you feel purposeless, ask God to give you wisdom and direction. James 1:5 states, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” That's incredibly good news. God wants to give you a purpose.
You have a destiny that will bring glory to God, share the grace of God, and extend the reign of God.
Job went through the same thing when he was confused and angry and wanting an explanation from God. He lashed out. Job's expression of emotion is a picture of what it means to worship in spirit and truth.
The Talmud mentions him as one of the three Prophets consulted by Pharaoh prior to his decision to drown the Hebrew baby boys (Exodus). Balaam tells him to kill the Jews, Yithro to spare them and Job who does not agree with the plan says nothing. The Talmud concludes that it was for this reason that Job was punished.
What does the Bible say about quitting? The Bible commands us to not quit, even when we get that defeated feeling. Scripture uses the word “endure” when describing how to deal with that feeling, meaning to abide under or to stand up courageously under suffering.
