India's support for the Palestinian cause is an integral part of the nation's foreign policy. In 1974, India became the first Non-Arab State to recognize Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) as the sole and legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.
India recognized Palestine's statehood following declaration on 18 November 1988; although relations between India and PLO were first established in 1974. After India achieved its independence in 1947, the country has moved to support Palestinian self-determination following the partition of British India.
In 2021, at the United Nations Human Rights Council, India voted against three resolutions of Israel – on the right of self-determination for Palestinians, on the human rights crisis in the Golan heights, and on the settlement policy of Israel.

Rapprochement and full recognition (1992–present)
Ties between the two nations have flourished since, primarily due to common strategic interests and security threats. In 1999 Israel supported India in the Kargil war by providing arms and ammunitions.
Israel's close friendship with the United States has been a linchpin of its foreign policy since the establishment of the state. Until the Iranian Revolution and the fall of the Pahlavi dynasty in 1979, Israel and Iran maintained close ties.
Israel has always sided with the United States on major global issues. At the United Nations and in other international institutions, the two countries' voting patterns are virtually identical, as are their policies on human rights and international law.
Pakistan's religiously-oriented political parties such as Jamaat-e-Islami and militant groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba fiercely oppose any relationship with Israel, and have repeatedly called for the destruction of Israel due to its standing as an alleged sworn enemy of Pakistan.
