Lola gave birth to King Francis' first and only child, John Philip. Queen Mary agreed to be a Godmother to their child. King Francis officially recognized their son and conferred him the title of Baron, with lands and a chateau.
John Philip is the illegitimate son born to his father, King Francis, and his mother, Lady Lola. He has been given lands and titles, including Baron of Velay. He lost his father to a gang of Scottish assassins and his mother was decapitated not long after, making him an orphan. He is now being raised at French court.
However, her husband's power-grabbing nature soon resurfaced and drove Lola away from him, all the way to English court. Lola found an unforeseen friend in Queen Elizabeth for a while, until she betrayed Elizabeth on what she thought was an order from her Queen. Lady Lola was thereafter beheaded for treason.
Jean-Philippe Valois Angoulême (English: John-Philip) is the illegitimate son of Francis and Lola. He was officially claimed by his father in The Lamb and the Slaughter, receiving the title of 1st Baron of Velay. He returns to French Court in Leaps of Faith, where he was with Lola as she was Elizabeth's prisoner.
Mary has promised to protect her and the others. Recently, Lola slept with Francis betraying Mary causing their friendship to fall apart.
The friendship seems irreparable, but they soften to one another after Mary teams up with Lola to help Estelle escape from Lord Narcisse. Mary forgives Lola and asks her to stop feeling guilty. The two reconcile and Lola asks Mary to be the godmother of her son, John Philip, which Mary accepts.
However, it was still evident that, while Narcisse's love for Lola was true, it was still a selfish and manipulative love that was no match for what he deemed to be his own best interests: even after being married to Lola, Narcisse cheated on her with Catherine for political matters, and Lola later found out that not ...
Mary didn't want Francis to claim his son at first, but soon came around to the idea and gave Francis her blessing to do so. Francis made Jean a baron and gave him lands, so as to publicly recognise him as his son.
It felt like the writers were trying to get to the end in case they were canceled, effectively making the job easier for the network.
