The health and well-being of consumers is an absolute priority for Ferrero. Is the vegetable oil in Nutella® hydrogenated? No. The vegetable oil contained in Nutella® is palm oil, which is naturally extracted from the palm fruit and gives our spread its creamy texture.
At 20 percent, palm oil is one of Nutella's main ingredients, and the tax was dubbed "the Nutella tax" in the media.
At Ferrero, we use palm oil to help us achieve the right consistency in our products, and since it is odourless and tasteless after the refining process, it does not interfere with the taste of our iconic recipes.
Palm oil is the vegetable oil, a semi-solid fat that gives Nutella its spreadable texture. The company used hydrogenated oil until a few years ago but converted to palm oil in 2006 to reduce trans-fat.
Palm oil, palm kernel oil, and coconut oil — the so-called tropical oils — got a bad reputation because they're high in saturated fat, which has long been linked to heart disease. Saturated fat boosts "bad" LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, both of which are risk factors for heart disease.

Divine, Beyond Good, Chocolat Madagascar, Pacari, Moo Free, Booja-Booja, Seed and Bean, Montezuma, Tony's Chocolonely, Fairafric, Vego, Willies, Ombar, Mia.
Lindt chocolate does contain a proportion of palm oil in some of its fillings, but lists the ingredient as "vegetable fats/oils". Plain Lindt chocolate does not contain any palm oil.
However, Maltesers chocolates are not suitable for vegans and they do contain palm oil which some people choose to avoid due to its links to deforestation.
Is Lindt using Palm Oil and is it sourced sustainably? Palm oil, palm kernel oil, and their fractions are used in limited amounts in certain fillings of our chocolate. Lindt & Sprüngli buys less than 0.01% of the global palm oil harvest.
Palm oil is the ingredient that ensures the smooth, creamy texture and unique stability of the Nutella® recipe. Because palm oil becomes semi-solid at room temperature, it allows us to avoid the fat hydrogenation process that would otherwise produce unhealthy trans fatty acids.
Does Cadbury Chocolate Contain Oil? Cadbury's confectionery is made with palm oil, which is one of the least expensive and most versatile vegetable oils. Mondelez, one of the world's largest palm oil buyers, now owns the Cadbury chocolate brand after it was sold by the Cadbury family in the 1950s.
Bottom Line: Without hesitation, Peanut Butter is the 'healthier' alternative to Nutella. Peanut Butter is lower in sugar, higher in protein and often lower in your unhealthy fats. The Centre of Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) describes Nutella as “more sugar and modified palm oil than hazlenut“.
