At high concentrations, tea tree oil is a potent killer of Demodex mites. The problem is that solutions of 100% tea oil, or other high concentrations, are very irritating to the eye. So one approach is to thoroughly wipe the eyelashes and eyebrows with a diluted solution of tea tree oil, from 5% to 50%.
With both antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects, tea tree oil has been effective in getting rid of mites. Typically, a daily lid scrub with 50 percent tea tree oil and lid massage with 5 percent tea tree oil ointment will take care of ocular Demodex infestation.
While tea tree oil's full mechanism of action against Demodex mites is unknown, tea tree oil causes the Demodex mites to migrate out of the skin, which may make it easier for treatments to take action against them (Liu 2010).
Peppermint oil is an essential oil obtained from peppermint, a hybrid variety of spearmint and water mint. Menthol and methane are two active ingredients in peppermint oil. The peppermint oil killed the demodex effectively, with a mean survival time of 11 min [15, 20].
Permethrin is safe and effective when used as directed. Permethrin kills the scabies mite and eggs. Permethrin is the drug of choice for the treatment of scabies. Two (or more) applications, each about a week apart, may be necessary to eliminate all mites.
Steam cleaning or washing items in hot water is a sure-fire way to kill and eliminate mites of all types. Use a steam cleaner to heat treat your carpeting, furniture and bedding. Wash the bed spreads and your clothing and other such fabrics in hot water and dry clean them at a high temperature.
The best essential oils for getting rid of dust mites are clove, rosemary, and eucalyptus oil. Add 20 drops of oil to four ounces of witch hazel, and spray your mattress, couch, drapes, and other dust mite hangouts.
Diffuse a mixture of essential oils of fennel, true lavender, niaouli, oregano, linalool thyme and verbena for half an hour to eliminate the strains of mites.
Dust mites are repulsed by the smell of Clove, Eucalyptus, Lavendar, Peppermint, and Rosemary. Make your own aromatic spray by adding a few drops of one (or more) of those essential oils in a water-filled spray bottle.
In the laboratory experiments more than 80% of mites were killed after immersion in 0.2% and 0.4% solutions of eucalyptus oil for 30 and 60 minutes (Fig. 1).
Tea Tree Essential Oil
A versatile oil that is known for its antiseptic, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties, Tea Tree oil has also been studied and shown to be an effective insect repellent. Most Effective for Mosquitos, Bed Bugs, Dust Mites, Lice, Ticks, Bees, Ants and Spiders.
Essential oils, especially tea tree, clove, palmarosa, and eucalyptus oils, are potential complementary or alternative products to treat S. scabiei infections in humans or animals, as well as to control the mites in the environment.
Application of Neem Oil
Scabicides are products used to treat scabies because they kill mites and their eggs.
The in vitro scabicidal activity of TTO against human scabies mites, S. scabiei, demonstrated a superior result in comparison with standard treatments (150 minutes with ivermectin 100 μg/g; 120 minutes with permethrin 5%, compared with 60 minutes median survival time with 5% TTO).
For control, we recommend two different species of predatory mites: persimilis and fallacis, and also the small beetle Stethorus. Persimilis is the main predator of spider mites and is the only one that will go directly into the webbing to eat them.
When a person who is sensitive to the dust mite breathes in these particles, they can cause allergy symptoms, including sneezing, coughing, runny nose, congestion and itchy, watery eyes. Dust mites can also cause asthma symptoms, such as coughing or wheezing.
Vinegar - Can repel a variety of pests including bird mites can be safely used on farms. You can mix white vinegar with a few drops of extremely important oil like peppermint and get a powerful spray ready for bird mites.
An apple cider vinegar bath can help get rid of the mange mites. Mix ½ cup of apple cider vinegar with ½ cup of Borax and warm water. Be sure the Borax is fully dissolved before sponging the mixture on your dog's skin and coat.
However, the animal mite cannot reproduce on a person and will die on its own in a couple of days. Although the person does not need to be treated, the animal should be treated because its mites can continue to burrow into the person's skin and cause symptoms until the animal has been treated successfully.
The best option when trying to get rid of dust mites on your skin is to jump in the shower and thoroughly clean yourself with hot water and soap. The heat and soap should kill off any dust mites still on your body.
