Compared with the healthy control subjects, there was a greater increase of heart rate in TIA and stroke patients. The decrease in systolic pressure of the stroke patients was significant (P<. 05) but not the change in diastolic pressure (Table 4).
In our prospective study, significant tachycardia ≥120 bpm occurred in about 10% of acute stroke patients within the first 24 hours after admission. Conclusions: Significant tachycardia and bradycardia are frequent phenomena in acute stroke; however they do not independently predict clinical course or outcome.
