But there have been many Sith over the millennia who abandoned the Dark Side after learning the folly of their ways. Sith have turned good after they found love, were inspired by their family, or because they discovered they were being manipulated.
Ajunta Pall. Ajunta Pall is a unique case among redeemed Sith as he is, to date, the only known dark Force user to return to the light well after his death.
It is most certainly possible. “Light Sith” as they're called were people who lived according to the Sith Code, but used its teachings in conjunction with the Light Side to do good deeds. They were often considered traitors to the Sith Empire and almost always lived far away from harm.

He was found by the Jedi Order in the Outer Rim territories and became Jedi Master Kreia's Padawan. Revan displayed an insatiable hunger for knowledge and soon became the Jedi's most talented student. His power only grew as he aged, and he led many organizations and armies into battle.
In short, Sith subscribed to the philosophy of self-promotion and aggrandization at the expense of others. Anyone who advocated otherwise would not have been considered a true Sith. So, yes, Sith had to be evil in order to be considered a true Sith.

As the first Dark Lord of the Sith, Ajunta Pall founded the first Sith Empire and expanded it onto other worlds. The Sith took over the planet Ziost and created it as their capital and as Pall's new home. Pall eventually died after serving the Empire for many decades, but his Empire lived on.

Darth Plageuis is one of the most famous Sith Lords in the Star Wars Universe. Plageuis was the mentor and master to Darth Sidious, and he was spoken of to Anakin in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

In reference to the title, Darth Vader was neither 100% good, nor bad. He started with good intentions but hate drove him down a bad path. Nevertheless, in the end of Star Wars the character showed that there was always some good left inside him and he returned from the Dark Side.
As powerful as Darth Sidious may have been, it's easy to forget he actually seemed afraid of Master Yoda. As seen in Revenge of the Sith, Palpatine initially thought he could deal with the aged Jedi Master - and then, when Yoda proved able to counter the Sith Lord's Force lightning, he fled.
