Doppelgängers, also known as Shadow-Selves or Mortal Shadow Selves, are a supernatural occurrence that were created by Nature as a result of Silas and Amara becoming true immortals after consuming Qetsiyah's immortality elixir.
The doppelgangers are born when Nature creates mortal shadow selves of Silas and Amara that will live a natural life and die in their place, to restore the balance of life and death. Over centuries, identical versions of Silas and Amara have been born and drawn to each other.
How likely is it that you actually have a doppelgänger? According to one study, the likelihood of two people sharing the exact facial features is less than 1 in 1 trillion. Put another way, there is only a one in 135 chance that a single pair of doppelgängers exists on our planet of more than 7 billion people.
Stefan Salvatore's doppelganger is Silas. He has one because the Universe has been trying to pair up all of Stefan and Elena's doppelgangers over the years and each one never worked.
Scientists find unrelated lookalikes likely have similar DNA. You and your doppelgänger – someone who looks just like you, but is actually a stranger — may actually have similar DNA, according to a new study.
Traditionally, they have been viewed as sinister or even evil entities. Seeing a doppelganger has also been considered an omen of misfortune or bad luck. Most often today, however -- as reports of doppelgangers show -- they seem to be neither sinister nor evil, nor do they herald streaks of bad luck.
The doppelganger can use its action to polymorph into a Small or Medium humanoid it has seen, or back into its true form. Its statistics, other than its size, are the same in each form. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn't transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.
Much of Elena's story revolves around her relationships with vampires Stefan Salvatore and his older brother, Damon. It is revealed that Elena is a Petrova Doppelgänger (like Katherine, Amara and Tatia), which is thus responsible for her being identical to her ancestor, Katherine Pierce (née Katerina Petrova).
Klaus is far more powerful than Silas because he's physically the second most powerful thing walking the planet (behind the Beast of the prophecy). Silas wasn't even as strong as a vampire, he's barely stronger than a human.
During the series finale, Stefan sacrificed himself to kill Katherine and save Mystic Falls, leaving Elena as the sole surviving doppelgänger. The Petrova and Salvatore bloodlines would continue with Damon and Elena's children, but doppelgängers would become extinct.
Believe it or not, scientists say that statistically, every person has roughly SIX doppelgangers out there in the world. That means there are seven people with your face, including you, out there.
Beyond just being lookalikes, the study found that the doppelgangers also tended to act alike — at least in the sense that they had similar education and smoking habits. Height and weight, too, were close between pairs.
But does everyone have a doppelganger? There's a fairly decent chance of it, actually, thanks to the limited number of genes that influence facial features.
Given that there's about 8 billion people on the earth, that's a roughly 0.11 percent chance of any given person having a “twin stranger.” Or, in other words, for any group of 10,000 people, about 11 of them should have a doppelgänger.
Doppelgangers live until partway through their second century after "coming of age", but become mature at the age their parent race does. Alignment.
With all of this in mind, it is important to note that Rebekah is the weakest Original Vampire, I wouldn't necessarily say because she's female, but for the sake of this argument, it's worth noting this, but at the end of the day she might have simply been the weakest child of Esther (strength-wise), and not because ...
The first vampire story is tough to pinpoint.
The story of Sekhmet, the Egyptian feline warrior goddess associated with both plague and healing, is considered by some to be one of the oldest vampire tales. Legend holds that the sun god, Ra, sent his daughter Sekhmet down to punish humankind for their disobedience.
The relationship between the cured vampire/human doppelgänger, Elena Gilbert and the cured vampire/witch doppelgänger, Katherine Pierce.
There are only two doppelgänger "lines" that rippled throughout history, colloquially known as the Salvatore and Petrova doppelgängers. Stefan Salvatore and Tom Avery are Silas' doppelgängers while Tatia, Katerina Petrova and Elena Gilbert are Amara's.
The blood of a doppelgänger can be used to link supernatural beings with the help of magic conducted by any witch. Their blood can also be used to bind an extremely powerful curse or spell or to use as a power source in spells that require more magic than the witch in question possesses on their own.
As Doppelgangers are metamorphic beings who can change into pretty much any other being, I would like to point out that they don't necessarily have a gender.
When a skilled doppelganger eats the brain of a creature it is currently impersonating, it unlocks an occult connection between victim and victor. Since few doppelgangers have a taste for flesh, this is an uncommon occurrence.
Doppelgängers share strikingly similar physical characteristics—they look so alike that, at times, these two unrelated people could easily pass for twins (or, at least, siblings).
