The most common cause of loose skin is aging, and of course it's unavoidable. As we age, your body produces less collagen and elastin in the skin, both which give your skin its natural elasticity and keep it firm.
Loss of fat in our face
In our youthful face, we have areas of fat which keep our skin plump and taut. As we age, these areas of fat begin to diminish. This allows the skin to sag. The areas where fat loss is most noticed is in the temples, under the eyes, and in the cheek area.
Laser resurfacing This is the most effective procedure for tightening loose skin. Unlike the laser treatment described above, this procedure requires some downtime. You'll need to stay home for 5 to 7 days. Laser resurfacing also gives you the fastest results.
Tighter Skin
A great way to help tighten the skin around your jawline, stomach, arms, and legs is to drink more water. That's because water helps improve skin elasticity, making it bounce back from sagging.
Lemon. “Vitamin C present in lemon boosts the production of collagen and helps to restore elasticity to the skin. It has astringent properties that work as a wrinkle-reducing and skin-tightening remedy,” says Dr Rana.
Coconut Water. Coconut water has been a traditional drink among Indians for a long time. Starting your day with a glass full of fresh coconut water helps to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. It helps in collagen production, maintains skin elasticity, and hydrates the skin naturally.
The highest concentration of vitamin C is found in citrus fruits like oranges, limes, lemons, and Indian gooseberries. According to research conducted at Oregon State University, vitamin C not only boosts collagen production but also aids the immune system and is food that tightens skin.
“In general, it can take anywhere from weeks to months—even years,” says Dr. Chen. If after one to two years skin is still loose, it may not get any tighter, she says.
UV damage is the main cause of skin collagen loss accounting for up to 80-90% of the appearance of skin aging. UV exposure causes both, less collagen to be produced, and. it also increases collagen degradation via matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and other proteases in the skin.
Eating foods rich in vitamin C and amino acids can increase the levels of hyaluronic acid and collagen in the body as both are important for skin. Foods such as oranges, red peppers, kale, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and strawberries are all rich in vitamin C.
Slather on a vitamin C serum in the morning. The vitamin is an antioxidant that protects the collagen in your skin against UV damage, says Chwalek. More than that, she says, it triggers collagen formation and stabilizes the collagen proteins in skin.
Baking soda works to remove dead skin cells, soften your complexion, and tighten pores. Used as part of a wrinkle-fighting beauty routine, exfoliating with baking soda can lead to visibly smoother, firmer skin.
“Coffee contains caffeine, which has a diuretic (water losing) effect, so drinking coffee (even decaf) can make you and your skin dehydrated and saggy,” she says. “Drinking coffee has also been shown to reduce skin circulation by constriction blood vessels.
Chilling the skin causes blood vessels to contract, shrinking pores and reducing puffiness immediately. Then, when the cold source is removed, blood and oxygen rush to the surface of the skin as it returns to its regular temperature, providing an overall tightening and glow-boosting benefit.
Lukewarm water is advisable to wash your face with, but cold water has its benefits, too. Cold water tightens the appearance of your skin, so it may make you look renewed and refreshed. It also helps boost your circulation, which can help give your skin a healthier appearance, albeit temporarily.
Lemon, being astringent and antibacterial, not only reduces excess oil on the skin but also helps kill bacteria and remove dead skin cells. L-ascorbic acid in lemon has drying effects and antiseptic qualities which fights acne.
