Press the clutch pedal down quickly all the way to the floor or until you feel it dis-engage. Smoothly pull the shift lever straight back from 1st to 2nd gear. Release the clutch smoothly and then continue pressing lightly on the accelerator.
Assuming that the clutch is fully releasing when you press the clutch pedal, the roughness you feel moving into first or second gear indicates the synchromesh for those gears has worn.
To ease the transition into second gear, bring the engine speed to roughly 1500-2000 RPM. Without revving the engine up slightly, you'll have a jerky, jarring transition when you let the clutch pedal out.
Within the engine at that point, an over-rev condition will occur and internal-engine components will momentarily spin far faster than what they were originally designed to do.
It could be due to worn-out friction material or a pressure plate defect (or combination of both). It could also be caused by an oil leak contaminating the clutch plate. If there is a fault with the clutch, you will need to find out whether it's a mechanical issue or whether the clutch facing has been contaminated.
This is often a sign of low transmission fluid or a faulty transmission control solenoid.
This can occur for a few different reasons. It can be anything from an internal pressure issue, a sensor problem, or a transmission failure. Most of the time it is caused by a sensor issue.

Rough jerking when shifting
It might feel like a jerk, clunk or thud. This is usually caused by troubles with the vacuum, transmission fluid or a faulty sensor. The vacuum modulator valve helps older vehicles determine when to shift gears. There's a hose that connects the valve with the intake through a hose.

Juddering in first gear is usually caused by wear or a pressure plate problem in your car's clutch. Any leaks in the system may also get onto the surface of the clutch plate, which could also be the culprit.

Another cause is when your engine is cold, the choke is engaged, or your idle is higher than normal. Any of these will cause a clunk when you shift into gear. Although it's normal, if it becomes frequent, you may want to have your transmission inspected or your idle adjusted.
A clutch that vibrates uncontrollably, sometimes known as “clutch judder”, when the clutch is initially engaged can be a clear sign that your clutch is failing. In a lot of cases, it could simply be that fluid has leaked into the gears, usually oil, causing them to lose grip.

If executed properly, there will be no issues or problems in the manual powertrain and it will be completely ok to skip gears in the right way. However, it is worth noting that you should avoid skipping the gear while starting the car from a standstill, i.e. skipping 1st gear and starting in the 2nd.
well as usual with manual cars they're all different. but not by much all the time for example in first gear most manual cars will go as slow as four to five miles an hour so there's only one mile an hour difference there between most cars in second gear most cars will handle.
The only scenario where starting in second doesn't incur more clutch wear is if you're starting on a downhill, or you're already rolling forward when you begin engaging the clutch.
Pulling away in second gear is not generally recommended for engines below 1.8l. Note: Since I wrote this article there has been a revolution (ho-ho) in engine/gearbox design such that many small cars with engine sizes up to 1.6l can comfortable reach 60mph and more in second gear.
