Use *67. This trick works for smartphones and landlines. Open your phone's keypad and dial * - 6 - 7, followed by the number you're trying to call.
Your carrier might offer two options: "unpublished" and "unlisted." Choose both. If you sign up for service online or through a store that is unable to modify this feature, call your carrier's customer service department to request either or both options if available.

Stop using your number across Google
Go to the Phone section of your Google Account. Remove number. Go to the Recovery phone section of your Google Account and re-add your number. To keep using your number in other Google services, go to those services and re-add it.

When you dial *#21#, you are, in fact, activating a feature access code that quickly tells you the status of call forwarding for your phone. It's a quick way of seeing what, in the case of this particular 'setting interrogation code,' your call forwarding settings. That's it, nothing more or less.
