Report Unwanted Calls and Texts
If you think you've received a political robocall or text that does not comply with the FCC's rules, you can file an informal complaint with the FCC at fcc.gov/complaints. If you are receiving texts that you didn't ask for, report the sender by forwarding the texts to 7726 (or "SPAM").
Report spam or junk messages
Or, if you've opened the message, scroll to the bottom of the message, tap Report Junk, then tap Delete and Report Junk. The sender's information and the message are sent to Apple, and the message is permanently deleted from your device.
Most phone carriers in the U.S. allow you to report phishing text messages by forwarding the message to 7726 or SPAM.
All you need to do is forward the SMS/MMS scam to 7226. We won't send you a reply message and you won't be charged for sending this SMS. Our Cleaner Pipes initiative helps to block on average, 23 million scam SMS each month since we introduced it in April 2022.
The code 7726 offers a quick and easy way to forward spam text messages to your cell phone carrier's spam department or team, so they can then take action against spammers. The code is easy to remember because it spells "spam." When you forward a text to 7726, it alerts your cell phone carrier of a spam problem.
Use a spam-blocking app
Other options include Robo Shield, Nomorobo and Textkiller, depending on your phone's operating system. If apps don't fix the problem, Stokes suggests calling your wireless service provider and asking what it can do to block unwanted texts.
To be safe, simply delete the email — if it's important, the sender will likely contact you some other way. And remember to empty your spam folder periodically.
Why am I getting spam text messages? There are many ways spammers get hold of your cell phone number so they can send SMS spam and sales texts: They may use technology to generate numbers automatically — so even if you have a brand-new number, you can still receive both robocalls and robotexts.
This can be from the sale of personal data by companies who you've given your number; it can be from data leaks; and also can just come from spammers randomly generating numbers. It goes without saying that you should never tap on any links in suspect messages or provide any data those messages request.
With iMessage, you can filter messages from unknown senders, and you won't get notifications from them. Go to Settings > Messages, scroll down to Message Filtering, then turn on Filter Unknown Senders.
Yes. You can remove your number by calling 1-888-382-1222 from the phone you want to remove. Your number will be off the Registry the next day.
The likelihood of you receiving a virus from opening a text is low. It usually takes clicking on an infected link or file to trigger a virus to install onto a device.
They won't receive a notification you have filtered their messages from your inbox. Their emails simply go straight to spam if they try to send you anything. Although there is no possible way for them to know if you have blocked them, they may suspect this — especially if you're not replying to their messages.
What to do if you get a spam text. Your best step is to block the text sender—don't click any links! —and report the spam. Then, delete the text from your phone.
“A good general rule of thumb for a text from someone you don't know is to just ignore it or delete it,” says Stephen Cobb, senior security researcher at ESET, a company that makes antivirus and Internet security software for businesses and individuals worldwide.
Scammers send fake text messages to trick you into giving them your personal information — things like your password, account number, or Social Security number. If they get that information, they could gain access to your email, bank, or other accounts.

For the most part, you'll want to go into your Messages app. From there, you'll generally find a three-dot menu, and in there, you'll find Settings. You can also choose a message and look for an option to block in there. As with all things Android, your results may vary, but that's a good idea of where to look.
Turn off cellular data by slide the toggle next to “Cellular Data” to the left. The toggle will become grey. You will no longer receive SMS text messages or phone calls. If you like, go back to the wiki section of your settings and slide the toggle next to “Wi-Fi” to the left.
What Happens if You Report a Text as Junk? When you report a text as junk on iMessage—whether intentionally or by mistake—the system permanently deletes the message, removing it from the inbox. It also sends the thread along with the sender's phone number to both your carrier and Apple.
