One objective way some researchers divide individuals into economic classes is by looking at their incomes. From that data, they split earners into different classes: poor, lower-middle class, middle class, upper-middle class and wealthy.

The term upper class refers to a group of individuals who occupy the highest place and status in society. Individuals who make up the upper class have higher levels of disposable income and exert more control over the use of natural resources.
The Class System
Class is determined by wealth and income and is considered an achieved status, or one which is earned.
The working poor, manual laborers, and service industry workers all might be considered part of the lower class. Some people might be offended at being labelled lower class; working class is a more acceptable way to refer to this low-paid group.

Sociologists use three techniques to determine social class: the reputational method, the subjective method, and the objective method.
Age Stratification
Though that's not true of everyone, it is true that some societies rank people according to age. Ranking age groups within a society is called age stratification by sociologists. For example, when a society holds a belief that older people are not as good as younger ones, that's age stratification.
Social status refers to the honor or prestige attached to one's position in society. It may also refer to a rank or position that one holds in a group, such as son or daughter, playmate, pupil, etc.

There is no official financial standard for what constitutes middle class. For most it's more about a standard of living—including owning a home, being able to afford to pay for a college education for your kids, and having enough disposable income to take a family vacation.
In 2021, the median household income is roughly $68,000. An upper class income is usually considered at least 50% higher than the median household income. Therefore, an upper class income in America is $100,000 and higher. However, an upper class income also depends on where you live.
Based on Pew's analysis, a three-person household would be considered low-income if they're bringing in less than $52,200 a year. This group makes up a significant chunk of the U.S. population, with about 38% of households making less than $50,000 in 2021.
