If the call ends after one ring (or, in some cases, half of a ring) and you are diverted to voicemail, you are either blocked or your contact's phone is dead. If the phone immediately hangs up or beeps rapidly, then either the line is busy or the contact blocked you through their carrier.
If you call someone that hasn't blocked your number, you typically hear several rings before it goes to voicemail. When you call a number that has blocked yours, you may hear one or half a ring or no rings at all and then the call will go to voicemail.
Android users may determine if someone has blocked their number by checking notifications. If the “sent” icon changes to “delivered,” the receiver is likely not blocked you. On the other hand, if it stays on “sent,” there's a good chance they have blocked your number.
Messages that are sent or received won't be delivered.
Send a Text Message
If you're an Apple user, you can determine whether your number is blocked by sending a message. Send an iMessage to the person and watch the notifications. If that person blocked your number, the status will never change to Read. If it stays in Delivered status, they may have blocked your number.
If you send a message as a regular SMS in the green text bubble and you do not get a “Delivered” notification but instead get a notification similar to “Message not Delivered” or no message at all, that means you were probably blocked.
“The last message that you know was received and responded to… should have a 'delivered' status,” Lavelle explains. If, under the messages you've sent after that, you don't see that “delivered” notification, that could mean that person has blocked you.
To check if you're blocked, try calling the person you suspect has blocked you. If the call goes straight to voicemail every time, it's possible that you've been blocked.
Messages from a block number are sent to the Block SMS folder instead of the inbox. To get access to this folder, follow the steps given below. Open the Message app. Tap the three dots on your device's top right corner.
If you have been blocked by someone with an iPhone, then calling the iPhone results in one ring, or no ring at all, before hearing a generic message stating that the person is not available. If the recipients iPhone has voicemail setup, the call is then directed to voicemail.
Check the Bubble Color
For example, if you send me a message and I receive it with a green bubble, this means that the message was sent through SMS rather than iMessage. If you don't see a blue bubble on your end, then it's likely that they've blocked you on iMessage.
Call the Person Directly
But, don't be fooled, because they'll never receive the voicemail either. It's actually a common sign of your number being blocked. The call will cut off and you'll hear a busy tone. Again, this is a common indication that your number has been blocked by the other person.
If you call a phone and hear the normal number of rings before getting sent to voicemail, then it's a normal call. If you're blocked, you would only hear a single ring before being diverted to voicemail.
A red flag that you've been blocked is when you don't see the delivery status or the read receipt at all. The message you just sent will still be in a blue bubble, but it will have no delivery status below it – not even a "Not Delivered."
Their status appears as “unavailable” You cannot send them any messages, and if you try, you will get a message saying that the user is unavailable. If you try to call them you will hear that the number is busy or unavailable. If you search for them and get no results.
If the other person switched to an Android phone, their bubble may have turned green (plus, they may have a new number). That means you may have to find it more directly if the other person switched from iOS to Android. If you were blocked, those green text bubbles mean the message was not received.
Use another phone number
You can try texting them by your secondary phone numbers, office phone numbers, or the phone numbers of some friends or relatives. It is highly likely that you will receive a response from the person who blocked your number.
Send A Text Message:
If someone has blocked your number on Android, your SMS will not be delivered to the other person. However, you will not know whether the message has been delivered to the person.
Some of the most common delivery failures happen because the number is invalid, the recipient opted out of messages, there were network problems with the recipient's carrier, or your message contained content that carriers frequently block.
For Android devices – Go to the Messages app and look for the checkmark icon beside the message. It indicates that your message has been sent and received by its recipient. SMS Marketing platforms – If you use a third-party application for SMS marketing, there will be an option to check the status of each sent message.
Give them time before reaching out.
When someone has blocked you, there is something fundamentally wrong. Either they don't trust you to leave them alone or they don't want to have to breakup with you in a mature way or something else. So if you ever reach out to them, you have made a move out of order.
So the person who was blocked won't know they're blocked when they try to call you. On their end, they'll hear the phone ring a few times. Then, their call will go straight to voicemail.
If your iPhone messages are green, it means they're being sent as SMS texts rather than iMessages. You'll always see green when texting Android users, or when you're not connected to the internet.
