If someone happens to put an Apple AirTag in your car or on your person, your iPhone will let you know. A push notification will alert you that an “AirTag is found moving with you.”
If you are an Android user, you can download the Tracker Detect app from the Google Play store to find trackers that are compatible with Apple's Find My network, are within Bluetooth range of your phone, and have been separated from their owner.
After downloading Tracker Detect, turn on Bluetooth, open the application, agree to the terms and conditions, and tap the blue Scan button to search for nearby items. If this is your first time using Tracker Detect, you'll be prompted to give the app access to Bluetooth, which it needs to find any AirTags.
Owners of iPhones running iOS 14.5 or newer should receive a push alert whenever an unknown AirTag is nearby for an extended period of time and away from its owner. Apple's website does not provide an exact time frame for when this alert is triggered.
If you think someone is using an AirTag or another item tracker to track your location, you can scan to try to find it. If the app detects an AirTag or compatible item tracker near you for at least 10 minutes, you can play a sound to help find it.
If you find an AirTag on you, you can easily disable it to stop sharing your location by twisting counter-clockwise on the back by the Apple logo and taking the battery out. The person on the other end will no longer be able to see your location.
These false alarms are usually happening in the middle of the night, wherein the person's iPhone receives an unknown AirTag alert. An accompanying map also shows the location of the tracker and how long has it been tracking your whereabouts.
Apple has implemented safety mechanisms within AirTag that include a feature that plays a sound when an AirTag hasn't been near its paired iPhone for at least three days. Additionally, users will receive an alert at a random period between eight and 24 hours once an unknown AirTag has been detected traveling with them.
AirTag Distance Limit – How Far Can You Track Apple AirTags
AirTag tracking range is around 15 to 25 feet. If you use Bluetooth, about 30 feet and if you use Find My network, the distance is limitless, as long as there's at least one Apple device near the AirTag.
Apple AirTags are quarter-sized Bluetooth trackers designed to help you keep tabs on valuables or frequently lost items like your car keys, wallet, or luggage.
Setting up and using AirTags
Unpack an AirTag and hold it near your iPhone. You'll see a card pop up offering to connect to the device. Follow the instructions, name the AirTag, and you're set. You can use the Find My app on your iPhone (or even Siri) to locate AirTagged items, and get directions as you get closer.
The AirTag is a small, button-shaped tracking device with a glossy white front that can be customized with an engraving and a silver backing. AirTags are designed around the CR2032 batteries that are inside, and need additional accessories to attach to an item.
How it works: An Apple AirTag can be left in the glove compartment, under a seat, hidden in the trunk or embedded anywhere in the interior. You can track a Bluetooth device via an app on your phone. The app can be used to find where you've parked (in case you forgot) or locate your car if it's been stolen.
Android users are advised to download the Tracker Detect app from the Google Play store that can find nearby AirTags. For those without an Apple device or smartphone, an unknown AirTag will alert you by making a sound. Here are some beeping sounds an AirTag can make.
Most of the trackers are added by the owner, but any person can equip a vehicle with such a device without the knowledge or consent of the owner. If you suspect that your vehicle has been outfitted with a GPS tracker without your knowledge, there are some simple steps to take to determine whether you are being tracked.
Once you've located the tracker, consider using a GPS jamming device. These devices interfere with GPS signals, preventing trackers from sending or receiving data. However, be aware that jamming GPS signals is illegal in some jurisdictions, so ensure to comply with local laws. Try using GPS blocking pouches.

GPS tracking protects vehicles against theft and boosts the likelihood of recovery. In today's era, most cars are fitted with GPS devices. But if an owner's new car isn't fitted with this device, they don't need to worry as it is not mandated by the law to have GPS in cars. Still, car owners can benefit much from GPS.
