1. Fleas Are Excellent Jumpers. While the average flea can jump a horizontal distance of 8 inches, some have been recorded jumping as far as 20 inches.
While the flea that dogs typically carry can–and does–jump over to humans and bite us, the dog flea cannot survive on humans. First, dog fleas need dog blood to eat. Second, humans aren't hairy enough to provide ample hiding coverage or the warm environment that dog fleas seek in a home.
Fleas are rarely off the host animal, so I am not certain what you saw, but they probably were not fleas. You can pack up your things and move to the new place and not worry, fleas do not leave the host animal and the larvae would not be in anything you are packing and taking with you.
Fleas can survive for several days to weeks without feeding on a host. However, they cannot travel very far without a host. Fleas are not strong fliers and can only jump a distance of about 7 inches. This means that they rely on their hosts to transport them to new locations.

Most fleas can live for between two and three weeks on a host organism, but some flea eggs can survive unhatched for up to an entire year. So even if the fleas you have are dying off, there will be plenty of eggs left to replace them.

Another alternative theory that explains why some people are more likely to get bitten by fleas is that their bodies are genetically much more reactive than others. In this theory, fleas might bite other people around you.
And believe it or not, fleas can jump vertically up to seven inches and horizontally up to thirteen inches! These tiny brown wingless parasites thrive nestled in the fur of warm-blooded animals, the perfect environment to hide and feed on blood.
The mixture of the warm water of your washing machine and the detergents that you use should be enough to kill most of the fleas and eggs that have taken up residence in your laundry.
Should I Wash All My Clothes if I have Fleas? To get rid of fleas, it is usually advisable to wash your clothes in hot water. Fleas and their eggs can be killed by raising the temperature to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. To kill them all, wash them for about 10 minutes and then dry them on high heat.
Once the clothing is isolated, take the time to carefully inspect each item. Look for any signs of fleas, such as adult insects, eggs, or larvae. Pay close attention to areas where fleas are likely to hide, such as seams, folds, and cuffs. Use a magnifying glass if necessary to ensure a thorough examination.
If you see just a few fleas on your dog, you may be tempted to think it's not a big deal. Although the random flea might show up if you've just taken your pup for a walk, more than one or two could be a sign of a problem. As few as 20 fleas might mean your pet is infested, while the most could be between 200 to 300.
Fleas cannot fly, but they move by jumping from object to object. It can take up to 3 months to break a total flea life cycle by using monthly flea treatments. For indoor flea control, vacuuming all floors, carpets, baseboards, pet bedding and furniture will help remove adult fleas and eggs.
When fleas impact humans, they may flock to the eyelashes, the eyebrows, the head, and the pubic region. Hair loss may occur on the body where the fleas are located. If the infestation is severe, anemia may occur as a result of the blood that is lost while the fleas are feeding.
Sand fleas are the only fleas that burrow into your skin to feed on blood. Other types of fleas land on the surface of your skin to temporarily feed on your blood. You may have multiple flea bites, or small red bumps on your skin.
