How far out does motion detection go? Motion detection on video doorbells can detect motion up to 30 feet from the camera. For enhanced motion detection, make sure you have the latest version of the Ring app downloaded on your iOS or Android.
However, most Ring Stick-Up Cameras have a detection range of up to 30 feet (9 meters). Stunned by its functionality? Well, that's not all!
The motion sensor, encased in a dome on the bottom of the camera, has a 270-degree detection range. The camera streams and records video in up to 1080p resolution and supports two-way talk with noise cancellation and night vision up to 30 feet.
Open the Ring app and tap on the three horizontal dots next to your doorbell at the top of the screen. Select Motion Settings. Choose Motion Zones. From the following screen, you can choose how far the range goes and which of 5 zones will trigger alerts.
Note: While it is highly unlikely that your Ring device will still detect motion after disabling all zones, it is possible if your Ring device is mounted high or can see the area it is monitoring really well. You may want to consider getting a Wedge Kit to help angle the device down.
Motion Alerts (also known as Smart Alerts) controls whether or not you receive notifications when your device detects motion. When turned off, you will not receive notifications. However, your device's motion detector will still be turned on and any motion it detects will be recorded in Event History.
Therefore if you have a WiFi-only smart doorbell and no other security device at home, a burglar who plans ahead could easily block your doorbell from recording video and then break in – without any way of you being able to identify the burglar.
In general, Ring cameras can be placed up to 30 meters (100 feet) away from the Wi-Fi router, but this distance can vary depending on the specific circumstances. If the Wi-Fi signal is weak or obstructed by walls, floors, or other obstacles, the range of the Ring camera may be reduced.
There was recently gunshots near our house and my neighbor across the street mentioned the exact words we exchanged inside the house when saying that we maybe should call the police, if the ring doorbells is pointed at your house even 20 ft away it can still hear through a thin wall.
No a Ring Doorbell or Security Camera doesn't record video 24/7. Instead these “smart” doorbells, will only start recording when an event is detected. The Ring isn't recording all the time but will active on motion. When something enters the cameras field of view, the Ring device will start recording video.
For both indoor and outdoor security cameras, you should look for a motion sensor that can “see” up to 40 feet away. The average living room is about 40 feet (or less) across, so a motion sensor that can detect up to 40 feet away should be perfect for indoors.
We started by testing the Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus in one of our labs and found that we could understand speech recorded at a conversational volume from up to 18 feet away, which was the farthest we tested in our lab.
How can we help? The Ring Alarm Motion Detector is designed to monitor a room or area inside your home for heat and movement. When armed, the Motion Detector will trigger your Ring Alarm when heat and movement are detected.
Motion Warning is a Ring device feature that notifies visitors they're being recorded. When it's triggered, this message plays through your device speaker: "Hi, you are currently being recorded." This feature is being rolled out for select Ring devices.
A Reliable Connection for Ring Alarm
Add more security coverage to your home with the Alarm Range Extender—a device that expands the range of your Ring Alarm components. Ideal for larger homes, the Range Extender eliminates dead zones, so your Ring Alarm devices can stay connected and on the lookout.
Your Ring Cameras and Doorbells can certainly connect to your wifi network via a 3rd party wifi extender. Please ensure that the extender is broadcasting or extending a compatible 2.4 Ghz connection, as this frequency is compatible with all of our Ring devices.
Solution 6: Configure Motion Zones
For example, you can narrow the width of the motion detector to avoid areas to the side with heavy foot traffic or shorten the range so that it doesn't detect passing cars or trucks on the street. Motion zones are part of your Ring doorbell's Advanced Motion Detection feature.
The motion sensors in your Ring Video Doorbell are designed to detect motion up to 155 degrees horizontally and from five to 25 feet outward from the fixture. They're also more sensitive to horizontal movement across the detection area than vertical.
It's not recommended to install a Ring Security Camera directly in front of a window or other reflective surface. The glare and reflection from the glass can impact the Camera's ability to accurately detect motion.
If there is enough light, the PIR sensor is not used (as in day) and the camera itself is sensing motion. If there is enough light during the night, the camera is sensing motion (or once a spotlight or floodlight is triggered). So, it is not using the PIR sensor and camera sensor at the same time.
