Stranger Things' dreaded villain Vecna aka Henry aka 001 is played by an exceptional Jamie Campbell Bower, who went through an 8-hour transformation to mould into character. If you keep up with the show, or even if you don't, you may have come across a photo of him casually sipping at a drink while in full costume.
How long did it take to apply everything? It was a seven-hour application on Jamie every day. I think we got it down to about six hours and 20 minutes—that was the quickest.
The entire process of becoming Vecna was a workday in itself, with the prosthetics taking eight hours to apply, and a further two hours to remove after filming was completed.
It also gave the paint job a really nice ping and made everything look really vibrant.” All told, Jamie shot for 25 days and every day involved the same elaborate process. “It was just this massive production line,” Gower said.
While they eventually managed to streamline the process, it apparently still took an average of seven hours to transform Bower into his monstrous form. “I think we got it down to about six hours and 20 odd minutes,” Gower said. “That was our record.
It seems that the reason why Vecna wasn't killing for the seven years after the Hawkins Lab massacre was because he was waiting to become more powerful as the Mind Flayer and Demogorgons took more victims, as he was likely weakened after being thrown into the dimension.
At the same time, Nancy, Steve and Robin reach Vecna's body in the Upside Down and throw multiple Molotov cocktails at him before Nancy shoots him, sending his blazing body flying out the window of the Upside Down's Creel House.
We know Eleven was born in 1971, which means her mom got pregnant with her during the tests, sometime in 1970. A 1959 flashback in the mid-season 4 finale reveals a 12-year-old One (Jamie Campbell Bower). That puts One, a.k.a. Vecna, as 24 when Eleven was born.
How Old 001 Is In 1979. If Henry Creel was 12 years old in 1959, that means when audiences see him again in 1979 posing as the kind orderly Peter at Hawkins Lab, he is around 32 years old.
(Key sound credits also include rerecording mixer Mark Paterson and production sound mixer Michael P. Clark.) For Vecna's voice, Henighan says they took Campbell Bower's performance and manipulated his voice so that “the clarity, the strength and the power was there. …
Jamie Campbell Bower revealed that his Vecna suit had a "flap" in order for him to use the bathroom during shooting for "Stranger Things," but he needed some help maneuvering it.

Vecna isn't as terrifying in the bathroom. Actor Jamie Campbell Bower, who played the complicated villain in “Stranger Things 4,” revealed that his terrifying Freddy Krueger-esque full-body prosthetics included a “flap” for him to use the restroom without getting out of costume.
If he couldn't physically leave the Upside Down, Vecna needed to use the Mind Flayer to attack Hawkins. He also needed to figure out how strong Eleven's power had gotten since their last face-off. Through Demogorgons and The Mind Flayer, Vecna began to slowly break down the barriers between the two worlds.
He was eventually destroyed, and his left hand and left eye were the only parts of his body to survive. Even after the character achieved godhood—being a member of the third edition's default pantheon of D&D gods (the pantheon of Oerth)—he is still described as missing both his left eye and left hand.
While intending to get his revenge on Eleven and Brenner, Vecna also goes after victims who have dealt with traumatizing experiences in the past (reminiscent of his childhood and his time at the Hawkins lab).
Kind-hearted cheerleader Chrissy Cunningham (Grace Van Dien) is the first character to be cursed by Vecna, and she dies in season 4, episode 1, "Chapter One: The Hellfire Club." After feeling ill, Chrissy sees the clock and begins picturing her mother, who has always been cruel, saying harsh things about her physical ...
The Duffer Brothers had Vecna planned from the start, which is how they were able to tie his character into earlier seasons. Stranger Things revealed Vecna was also behind the Mind Flayer that appeared in season 2.
Hawkins has suffered a lot of trauma over the years - not all of which is connected to Hawkins Lab and the Upside Down - and Vecna's curse takes advantage of that. Vecna appears to carefully choose people who feel a strong sense of guilt or shame, particularly if those emotions are repressed.
By the time he was 12, his mother had decided to call Dr. Martin Brenner to help figure out her son's strangeness. This enraged Henry, who later murdered his mother and sister using his supernatural abilities.
Vecna was not always a hideous beast of the Upside Down. He was once a troubled child in the real world named Henry Creel.
Vecna's Hand
This is a reference to the D&D character Vecna, for whom this Vecna is named; the D&D Vecna has a monstrous hand infused with dark magic. The design of Vecna's hand is also a nod to Freddy Krueger, the Nightmare on Elm Street villain who had a huge influence on this season in general.
Once he takes control of the mind, he traumatizes them by showing the visions of their dark past. He takes them to unknown places and gives them a glimpse of himself. The pain of his victims doesn't end here. Every single one of his victims experiences nose bleeding and severe headaches as well.
"Vecna really is a creature that has mutated in the last however many couple of decades during his time in the Upside Down," prosthetics designer Barrie Gower said. "This is where he has become more overtaken by the Upside Down world and become pretty much possessed and mutated."
