How Lady Gaga Prepared for Her “House of Gucci” Role, from Studying Panthers to Staying in Character for 18 Months.
Lady Gaga Details 'House of Gucci' Method Acting, Using Accent for 9 Months: 'I Never Broke' Gaga said going Method for "House of Gucci" resulted in "psychological difficulty" by the end of filming.
House of Gucci spoilers follow.
Gaga recently revealed that she improvised a key scene in the film, right after Maurizio had been killed.
“I am rather annoyed at the fact that Lady Gaga is playing me in the new Ridley Scott film without having had the consideration and sensibility to come and meet me,” Patrizia told ANSA, an Italian wire service.
In Milan, Gaga attended the Italian premiere of House of Gucci at The Space Cinema Odeon wearing a bright red custom Versace gown with gold Tiffany & Co.
Hair and makeup artists Anna Carin Lock and Göran Lundström faced a similar challenge in using wigs and prosthetics to make Jared Leto into a heavyset and balding Paolo Gucci.
A dialogue coach who worked on the film said Gaga sounded more Russian than Italian—but Gucci director Scott thinks it was “absolutely perfect.” Lady Gaga spoke with a Northern Italian accent for nine months to authentically portray Patrizia Reggiani in the upcoming movie House of Gucci.
In 1997, Patrizia was sentenced to 29 years in prison for her involvement in the crime. "I didn't want to collude with something I don't believe in," Lady Gaga continued. "She did have her husband murdered."
Gaga is wildly watchable in the role, broad but unwinking, an absolute scream, and the movie only really makes sense when it's about her.” Slate: “I wish that, like the friend I saw it with, I had experienced House of Gucci purely as a Rocky Horror Picture Show-style campfest.
"I didn't wanna meet her because I could tell very quickly that this woman wanted to be glorified for this murder, and she wanted to be remembered as this criminal," Gaga said. "I didn't wanna collude with something that I don't believe in," she continued.
If my count serves me right, Gaga wore 45 looks throughout the film (although costume designer Janty Yates told WWD 54, and she's presumably correct), and I'm including lacy robes, towels, hospital gowns and costumes/disguises in that count.
After seeing the movie, I can confirm that my first impressions were right. Lady Gaga's Patrizia Reggiani sounds Russian. This is particularly true when she speaks in English. On the other hand, she delivers some of her Italian lines with a perfect accent, and that puzzled me.
Recently, she starred in the 2021 film The House of Gucci with other big-name stars. She had the lead role and went the extra mile to prepare for the part. For instance, Lady Gaga ate pasta and bread to gain weight. She also watched plenty of animal videos to prepare herself for the movie.
The family called the film an insult to its legacy.
Lady Gaga Diet
Lady Gaga's diet is packed with different nutrients. Her personal chef has stated that a typical meal that she would eat is something that would include black beans, quinoa, grilled shrimps, and lots of vegetables.
One of the things that the Gucci family did not like about the House of Gucci film is its inaccurate depiction of the real-life events involving the Gucci family.
Stephanie Zacharek, film critic for TIME, said in her review that "Gaga's performance in House of Gucci is both tremendous fun and ultimately touching, likely despite any technique rather than because of it." Zacharek adds that her acting is "wonderful because she's alive to every moment."
The short answer is: yes. Although how much of it will be fictionalized remains to be seen, Maurizio Gucci and Patrizia Reggiani were both real people—and Patrizia, now in her 70s, is still alive today. But the twists and turns of their relationship are nothing short of shocking.
But the real relationship between House of Gucci's central couple — Patrizia Reggiani and Maurizio Gucci — is even wilder. While Reggiani and Gucci were madly in love when they married in their 20s, the flame extinguished by their late 30s.
Patrizia Reggiani Gucci went to prison for the murder of her ex-husband, but due to an appeal relating to her brain tumour, her sentence was reduced to 26 years. However, after serving her 18 years jail term, she got released on two years of parole work in October 2016 due to good behaviour credit.
It turns out there's more wardrobe secrets behind House of Gucci than we thought. A new clip released today by Universal Pictures gives a closer look at the styling of the film thanks to tidbits from costume designer Janty Yates.
Jared Leto's "Italian" Accent In 'House Of Gucci' Was 2021's Best Accent.
Gaga told British Vogue that she started practicing speaking with an Italian accent by adopting a dialect commonly spoken in Vignola, a city in Northern Italy. She then moved on to a "higher class way of speaking that would have been more appropriate in places like Milan and Florence."
Lady Gaga's Language Background
As a native New Yorker, English is Lady Gaga's first language and one that she speaks fluently. The second language that she speaks may come as a surprise. Despite her Italian roots, she doesn't speak Italian but speaks French instead.
