Once you've received a successful wax, getting it back to ¼ of an inch hair growth for waxing should take a minimum of at least two weeks on finer hair areas like the face, and four to six weeks on thicker hair, as found in the pubic region.
You will, however, notice that after a few Brazilian Waxes your hair will start to grow in much slower and finer. Shaved hair is much thicker because it gets cut off at its thickest point.
After a wax, the hairs that were in the resting phase will begin growing back, and that's why you'll see hair regrowth in a matter of weeks but not as thick as before. On average, a wax will last you three to four weeks.
Pubic hair tends to grow a little faster than on other areas of the body. Pubic waxing usually lasts around 3 - 5 weeks.
HOW MANY DAYS BEFORE I GO ON HOLIDAY SHOULD I BOOK MY WAX? To avoid any redness or swollen legs when you pop on your bikini for the first time of the year, it's a good idea to plan a wax for two or three days before you jet off on your holidays.
And since your hair is at various phases in the growth cycle, your initial wax may not remove some hairs that are in the anagen stage. These hairs will make their presence known when they're good and ready, aka, maybe a day or so after your wax.
First of all, people can shave the hairs they've missed during waxing, and it won't harm the skin in any way if the client doesn't suffer from any sensitivity problems.
It Can Cause Nasty Ingrown Hairs (Ouch!) Ingrown hairs look gross (not to mention hurt like hell) and are at risk of becoming infected. These can still happen after a sugaring or waxing session, but are far more common when you shave!)
Today, women can choose from a variety of grooming options for their nether regions including waxing, shaving, laser hair removal, and a simple trim.
Because the skin down there is so sensitive, waxing can cause tears and cuts. “These can become a breeding ground for bacteria and even infect your hair follicle causing acute folliculitis, which can only be cured with a course of strong antibiotic medicines,” says Dr Anuradha Kapur. The trauma may not end there.
Waxing cons
Waxing can cause inflamed hair follicles, pain, redness, ingrown hairs and skin irritation. Removing female facial hair while using retinoid anti-aging or acne products can lead to abrasions, infection and even scarring, so be sure to do your homework before trying a wax.
"For a bikini wax, those who frequent the beach benefit from waxing their bikini line every two weeks. But for a full bikini or Brazilian bikini service, you're recommended to come in every three to four weeks. This allows the proper amount of time for regrowth," Coba says.
As for whether Brazilian waxing makes you wet, there is no definitive answer. Some women say that the sensation of having their pubic hair removed is arousing, while others find it to be uncomfortable.
Pubic hair holds on to residual urine, vaginal discharge, blood and semen. Bacteria line up all along the hair shaft just lunching it up and creating odor. (Very appetizing, I know.) Trimming your pubic hair reduces that surface area for bacteria, thus reducing odor.
Dry, rough skin can cause more hair to break during waxing. Before your treatment, and between treatments, be sure to take care of your skin. Exfoliate regularly using a gentle, non-polluting exfoliant or a loofah to keep your skin smooth, and use a hydrating lotion to prevent dry skin.
Timing matters. Avoid scheduling a wax five days before your menstrual cycle, during it, or immediately after. “Your body is especially sensitive during this time,” says Exhale Spa aesthetician Angela Marinescu.
I also recommend staying out of the sun for a day or two and be sure to use sunscreen. Also, don't try to trim your hair if you've waited too long between waxes. Oftentimes clients will trim their hair too short, and we can't remove the hair properly.”
Hairs can stop showing up after 8 months of treatment in areas where it grows naturally finer, as well as with people with fine hair. It's just as common, however, for people to go through years of wax sessions before the hair stops growing for good.
Never Shave Between Waxes
The biggest mistake Grupenmager sees even the most seasoned clients making is shaving between waxes. "This seems like a quick fix for stubble, but shaving only removes hair at skin level, so it reappears in one to four days, and over time the skin itself becomes coarse," she warns.
Hydrocortisone is a steroid-based cream that helps stop pubic hair itching when growing back. Apply as directed and make sure to avoid this solution to your itching if you have sores, bleeding or signs of infection.
For Women, there can be a significant difference in the amount of pain they experience from waxing at different times in their menstrual cycle. Before and during menstrual periods, the skin is much more sensitive. Ideally, always after period, not before or during.
Our advice is to wait 24 to 48 hours so your skin has time to heal and hair follicles can close. Doing so will prevent any further skin irritation.
Medical experts recommend waiting for 24-48 hours after any type of bikini wax. This time period is when your body can be most susceptible to outside bacteria, which can potentially cause an infection.
