Fox says the first Avatar sequel will be released December 18, 2020. Avatar 3 comes a year later, and the last two are due December 2024 and 2025. The Avatar Sequels aren't just about the destination (again, Pandora, in case you've forgotten in the interim). Avatar is about Cameron's journey.
Avatar 5 is set to drop on December 22, 2028.
Long story short, Avatar 3 will be released in cinemas on December 20, 2024, barring any delays in post-production.
At the time of writing, there are no concrete plans for an Avatar 6. James Cameron has got the green light to take the franchise as far as Avatar 5, but after that, we enter the unknown. Still, Cameron has said that if there's enough interest, he has plans for not just a sixth but also a seventh Avatar movie.
Cameron stated that Avatar: The Tulkun Rider is being considered as a possible title for the film. In January 2023, Cameron confirmed that, with Avatar: The Way of Water being profitable, Avatar 4 and 5 will get made.
It's the sixth film in history — and first in pandemic times — to cross the coveted milestone, joining an exclusive club that includes “Avatar,” “Avengers: Endgame,” “Titanic,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and “Avengers: Infinity War.”
In the 13 years since the original “Avatar” opened in theaters and became the highest-grossing film of all time, Cameron has developed four sequels and shot two of them in full (“Avatar: The Way of Water” and “Avatar 3”). Parts of “Avatar 4” have also been shot.
James Cameron's blockbuster epic “Titanic” has relinquished its spot as the third-highest grossing movie in history to another James Cameron blockbuster epic, “Avatar: The Way of Water.” The sci-fi sequel has generated $2.2433 billion globally, enough to overtake “Titanic” ($2.2428 billion) at the worldwide box office.
How long did Avatar 2 take to make? Avatar: The Way of Water has taken 12 years to make, with the sequel not beginning production until August 2017. In 2006, three years before the release of the first movie, Cameron said there'd be sequels if Avatar was a hit.
Avatar 2 Beats Avengers: Infinity War To Become The Fifth Highest Grossing Film Of All Time, Collects THIS Much. Avatar 2 Box Office: James Cameron's sci-fi film has surpassed the collections of Marvels' Avengers: Infinity War to become the fourth highest grossing film of all time in cinema history.
It beat Avengers: Endgame which was on top of the list for three years since its release in 2019. The Russo Brothers' directorial was the final film from Marvel's Infinity saga. It earned a collection of Rs 438 crore. Avatar: The Way of Water picks up after the events of Avatar (2009).
'Avatar 2' surpasses 'The Force Awakens'; becomes 4th biggest movie in history.
'Avatar 4' will move the action from Pandora to Earth, reveals producer Jon Landau. Sounds super cool, but we'll have to wait until December 2026 to see it. After three adventures on Pandora, James Cameron's Avatar franchise will go where it's never gone before: Earth.
Sources have told Variety that the movie's break-even point was set at roughly $1.4 billion, a figure the movie has already crossed. Insiders told Variety this week that the movie is going to generate a box office total of at least $1.825 billion, though $2 billion certainly remains in reach.
“Four forthcoming Avatar films, expanding the vibrant world of Pandora, will release on the pre-Christmas weekend every other year beginning in 2021,” Disney says. We're getting the sequel on December 17, 2021; Avatar 3 on December 22, 2023; Avatar 4 on December 19, 2025; and Avatar 5 on December 17, 2027.
JAMES CAMERON HAS PLANS FOR AVATAR 6 AND 7
Officially, Walt Disney Pictures has announced four Avatar sequels: Avatar: The Way of Water (the second Avatar movie) (12/16/2022), Avatar 3 (12/20/2024), Avatar 4 (12/18/2026), and Avatar 5 (12/22/2028).
A fifth and final film has been announced and is scheduled for December 22, 2028.
Avatar director James Cameron has confirmed that the fourth and fifth films in the series will be made. The long-awaited second film in the series – The Way Of Water – finally landed last month, with three more sequels already planned.
Much like Wan, the first Avatar, Korra became the first of a new line of Avatars. The Avatar will continue to exist and be reborn after Korra's death, but instead of accessing Wan, Aang, Kyoshi, or Roku, her successors will have to rely on Korra's wisdom for guidance.
Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, was the narrator in “Avatar” and “Avatar: The Way of Water.” For the upcoming and still-untitled “Avatar 3,” which is now post-production, Jake's son Lo'ak (played by Britain Dalton via motion capture) will take over as narrator.
Book One: Jimu
Note: This is the only book. A brief summary is given on what happened to Korra and Republic City after the show ended. Jimu, the Avatar after Korra, comes out of hiding after 4 years and realizes how much destruction Shi has caused. Jimu keeps leaving his room despite the mysterious man's orders.
If audiences keep returning to Pandora, he'll keep making them. And, if interest remains high through Avatar 5, that doesn't necessarily have to be the end either. In a new Cameron profile in The Hollywood Reporter, he reveals that he's got “plans” for an Avatar 6 and 7 too.
The leaked title for Avatar 4 is Avatar: The Tulkun Rider — though again this has not been confirmed as the title. Given that we already see someone ride (sort of) a tulkun in The Way of Water, it's a little unclear what this title might be referring to, so we'll probably have to wait for more details on that front.
Avatar 3 is scheduled to be released on December 20, 2024, by 20th Century Studios. Like its predecessor, the film was subjected to eight delays, since the crew took more time on the writing, pre-production and visual effects process.
While the Guinness World Records say the longest movie ever made is 1987's The Cure of Insomnia, it's actually Amra Ekta Cinema Banabo, also known as The Innocence.
