Do cats really have 9 lives? The short answer is no, but there's something so beguiling about a cat's demeanor that makes it seem almost possible that they could have extra lives.

A cat has only one heart. Within that heart are four separate chambers. The upper chambers of the heart are called left and right atria. The two lower chambers are called left and right ventricles.
Just like humans, a cat's heart is hollow, made of muscle, located in the center of the chest and has four chambers. The two upper chambers are called the atrium, which collects circulating blood, and the lower chambers are called the ventricles, which pumps blood from the heart.
We love to relate feline lore all the way back to the ancient Egyptians, who revered and even worshipped cats. A common creation myth says that the sun god Ra, who took the shape of the “Great Tomcat” or Mau during his visits to the underworld, engendered eight other gods—thus representing nine lives in one.
Cats don't cry tears when they're sad or in pain. But Halls says whether your cat is experiencing emotional or physical pain, they'll exhibit behavioral changes that could include vocal crying. The sound of a cat crying is typically longer in duration and lower in frequency than day-to-day cat chatter.
Though this data might seem to suggest that dogs are twice as intelligent as cats, a direct correlation between larger brain size and increased intelligence has not been conclusively proven. Regardless, dogs' higher neuron count is often viewed as a gauge of their superior intelligence.

Aside from conjoined twins, no human is born with two hearts. But in the case of extreme heart disease, called cardiomyopathy, rather than receiving a donor heart and removing yours, doctors can graft a new heart on to your own to help share the work. This is more commonly known as a piggy-back heart.
Pulling on your cat's tail (or letting your kids do so), blowing in her face, ruffling her fur while she's sleeping, picking her up if she dislikes being handled, jiggling her in your arms—such antagonizing behavior confuses and agitates your cat. Earthworms are one of the most common animals with multiple hearts. These decomposers can be found pretty much everywhere, as long as there's dirt for them to live in.
Octopuses and squids (animals called cephalopods) have three hearts. Two hearts pump blood to the gills to take up oxygen, and the other pumps blood around the body (Figure 1). Worms are also unusual, with five structures called aortic arches acting as basic hearts.
In a sense, yes, cats do have menstrual periods. In felines it's called 'oestrus', but many people just refer to it as being 'in heat'. Only unspayed female cats go through these cycles but rather than shedding the old womb lining like humans do, they reabsorb it, so bleeding is a very rare side effect.
Cats possess excellent long-term memories. They can recall their animal companions and the people who feed them as well as those who irritate them. Memory is what allows a cat to leap into the arms of a family member returning after a semester away at college.
Cats have a wide range of basic emotions – they feel happy, sad, afraid, relieved and even frustrated, just like us humans! The key to a good relationship with your cat is learning how to recognise these emotions, and respond where needed.
So how does the blood get back up the leg from the hoof to the heart? Horses, like other mammals, have only one heart.
In the hagfish, the systemic heart pumps blood through the gills, and by way of arteries through the rest of the body. The accessory hearts are all located on the venous side of the circulation to pump blood back to the systemic heart.
