Every game of the 2023 season will be live and broadcast on Kayo Sports while Channel 7 will have live and free to air games throughout the season.
As per usual, the easiest way to watch the AFL in 2022 is probably through sports streaming service Kayo. You can sign up for a 7-day free trial. Otherwise, memberships will set you back $25 a month for the basic package or $35 per month for the premium service.
Kayo Sports: from $25/month for 1 stream. Stan Sport: from $25/month for 1 stream (includes the regular Stan streaming service, both owned by Nine) Optus Sport: from $24.99/month or $199/year ($6.99/month for Optus customers)
For AFL fans looking to avoid a subscription service your viewing options are more limited, as channel Seven is the official free-to-air AFL broadcaster, but they only have the TV rights to up to four live matches per round during the regular season.
How the broadcast deal works. Under the AFL's broadcast deal, coverage is split between pay TV and free-to-air. Fox Sports is the competition's pay TV broadcaster, while Channel Seven holds the free-to-air rights, including to every finals game.
Kayo is the cheaper option and offers almost everything sport-related available on Foxtel, but there are a few more nuances to consider. We're reader-supported and may be paid when you visit links to partner sites.
