But grooming expert Hassan urges men to regularly shave their pubes, an act he calls 'manscaping'. He says: “Shaving or trimming your pubic hair once every 1 to 4 weeks is the optimal option. The exact frequency comes down to your personal preference and your manscaping style.”
Clean-shaven pubes require a consistent and frequent schedule. If you want to keep things bald on your lower abdomen and below, you need to shave in the direction of hair growth several times a week.
A clear majority of women prefer a simple trim. While there will be eternal debate over whether or not the balls and anus should be smooth, most women agree that as long as things are kept in order, the style of trimming isn't a deal-breaker. You really can stick with a simple design and please most of the ladies.
Pubic Hair Trends
According to the researchers, when asked if they removed their pubic hair, 80% of women and 39% of men removed their pubic hair near the time of the survey. Also, 3% of women and 21% of men had never removed their pubic hair.
Assess your furriness
That's a normal thing, and you should adjust your grooming sessions to match your hair growth. Some guys have to shave every week. Some guys only have to shave once a month. Very few guys will need to shave multiple times a week (we have a different recommendation for them in the next section).
“It's best to give the skin some time to recover,” Dr. Garshick explains. “That said, there's no specific rule on how often to shave as everyone's hair growth can vary, though every few days is reasonable.”
One of the best methods to prep your pubic area for a razor is to expose it to wet, moist heat. After using a warm washcloth, it is important to wash the area. This helps remove any built-up oils that may make shaving harder, and will also help you avoid folliculitis, an infection of hair follicles.
Male pubic hair is currently less "full bush" and more "clean-cut," which is the current trend. As a result, not all men should completely shave off their pubic hair because doing so can cause excruciating discomfort and even unpleasant skin conditions like razor burn or ingrown hairs.
The key to shaving pubes is to use short strokes with gentle pressure. You can shave in any direction that feels comfortable, but shaving “with the grain” will help to avoid excess shaving irritation. Clean the blade in water every 2-3 strokes to keep your hair from blocking the blades.
Shaving with a clogged or unclean razor is a big no-no. Folliculitis is typically caused by bacteria. Folliculitis causes red and white pimples to grow around the hair follicle resulting in that prickly feeling after shaving. Rest assured, mild cases of folliculitis should clear on its own within a number of days.
That's why it's helpful to keep everything at a short clip. The exact length is up to you, but it's best to leave it under an inch or an inch and a half. You don't need to trim as much of your other body hair, though.
Shaving your testicles will allow for more air circulation around your groin area and help prevent any foul smells from developing. In addition, it makes cleaning up after you pee or sweat much easier—reducing odors from urine and sweat build-up on unshaved skin surfaces even further!
Benefits of shaving your balls
Hair collects sweat and can produce odor. Shaving the area will keep it cleaner and smelling better.
Cons: Skin Irritation: Shaving can cause skin irritation, especially if you have sensitive skin. Razor burn, ingrown hairs, and itchiness are common issues that may arise. Increased Maintenance: Unlike trimming, shaving requires more frequent maintenance.
Secondly, even if you want to get rid of some hair down there, full-on shaving your balls can be unnecessary when using a body hair trimer is far easier, far less risky, and yields more or less the same benefits. You can still get 90% of the smoothness with much less chance of ingrowns or an ER visit.
Trim between 2mm and 6mm lengths for neat and tidy pubic hair.
It prevents against friction burns during sex.
Pubic hair is curly because curly hair does a better job of capturing the pheromones from one's sweat glands, ensuring that each personal has a unique genital odour.
What length should I trim my pubic hair to prevent itch? Trimming your pubic hair too low is a common way to get itch during regrowth. We recommend using a guard to have your pubic hair remain at least 2mm high. This will lead to less itching when it grows back, as the hairs won't be going through the skin.
Allergies or an allergic reaction. Skin irritation from sweating or wearing tight clothing. Skin irritation from personal hygiene products such as soaps, perfumes and detergents. Genital herpes.
“There is no medical reason that you need to be removing or trimming some or all of your pubic hair,” says Nina Carroll, MD, OB/GYN, of Your Doctors Online. According to Carroll, the risk of infection — be it bacterial, yeast, or sexually transmitted — is not higher or lower based on your pubic hair practices.
Some guys trim their pubic hair over the toilet or in the bathtub/shower - but your best bet is to trim over a large towel. You don't want to have the awkward conversation where you explain why there's a clump of little curlies clogging up your drains.
Pubic hair plays a role in reducing friction during activities such as sexual intercourse. It also plays a role in preventing dirt and pathogens from entering the genitals. A person can safely remove their pubic hair if they wish to, but they do not need to.
