How often should you poop. You don't need to poop every day to be regular. It's normal and healthy to have a bowel movement anywhere between three times a week to three times a day. If you're producing soft, well-formed logs that aren't hard to push out, your bowels are probably in good shape.
Bowel movement frequency varies between people, but more than three bowel movements a day is considered frequent. This can be caused by certain foods or dietary factors, but it may also be the result of viral or bacterial infections, medication side effects, and some health conditions.
Some people have them three times a day. Others have them just a few times a week. Going longer than 3 or more days without one, though, is usually too long. After 3 days, your stool gets harder and more difficult to pass.
If you are unable to have a bowel movement in one week (six days), it's time to seek help from a doctor. Bacteria from fecal matter that collects around your colon could spread and cause infections in other parts of your body. Rectal bleeding may be one of these signs.
Not enough fiber.
You may become constipated if you don't eat enough high-fiber foods, such as vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Eating a lot of high-fat meats, dairy products and eggs, sweets, or processed foods may cause constipation.
First, let's be clear: There is no rule about the number of bowel movements a person should have each day. Some people poop several times a day. Others go every few days. “Normal” is something that each person must decide for themselves.

Coffee stimulates colon contractions
(Medical lingo: Peristalsis is the name of this wave-like muscle movement.) Coffee contains acids shown to boost levels of the hormone gastrin, which stimulates these involuntary muscle contractions in your stomach to get your bowels moving.
The urge to poop after a meal is often called a gastrocolic reflex. In this case a response is triggered in the colons once the food is eaten and it leads to colonic contractions. These colonic contractions following food consumption pushes the digested food in the body toward the rectum for defecation.
In the short-term, you will probably weigh a few hundred grams more if you are constipated because your bowel is full of digested food. Just remember that this is rather insignificant because it hardly impacts your overall body weight.
When you can't get stool out of your body, it can start to stick together in your intestines. The hardened mass gets stuck and causes a blockage. The squeezing your colon normally uses to push stool out of your body can't move it because it's too large and hard. It can cause pain and vomiting.
It takes about 36 hours for food to move through the entire colon. All in all, the whole process — from the time you swallow food to the time it leaves your body as feces — takes about two to five days, depending on the individual.
No Bowel Movements for More Than One Week
If you do not pass any bowel movements for over one week, Dr. Bedford added that is an additional reason to seek medical attention.
Eating When you Have Constipation. Try these things to relieve your constipation: Do not skip meals. Avoid processed or fast foods, such as white breads, pastries, doughnuts, sausage, fast-food burgers, potato chips, and French fries.
A fecal impaction is a large, hard mass of stool that gets stuck so badly in your colon or rectum that you can't push it out. This problem can be very severe. It can cause grave illness or even death if it's not treated. It's more common among older adults who have bowel problems.
