Elves, at least the Eldar, have a pregnancy that lasts about a year. By the age of 1, Elves can speak, walk and dance. Puberty and full height are attained at around their fiftieth to one hundredth year, when they stop aging physically.
Elf Traits
An elf typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 750 years old. Alignment: Elves love freedom, variety, and self- expression, so they lean strongly toward the gentler aspects of chaos.
Unlike the race of Men, they didn't physically age. They just remained constant -- an unchanging incarnation of their eternal form. Thus, once they were 100 years old, they looked the same for the rest of their lives.
Elves are naturally immortal; like the Ainur, they are bound to Arda until its End. Elves are immune to all diseases, and they can recover from wounds which would normally kill a mortal Man. Nonetheless, Elves can be physically slain or die of grief and weariness.
Elves have the ability to live forever thanks to their immortality. Elves like Elrond, who was over 6000 years old in The Lord of the Rings, are not hard to come by. That being said, Elves who go into battle are aware of the risk to their immortality, willing to risk a long healthy life for the sake of a greater cause.
Elves, High Elves in particular, are said to be able to live for around 1000 years. Humans live to be around 100 at most. So we can assume that Humans age roughly ten times quicker than Elves do. So obviously, elves age much more slowly than humans do.
In the books and Legendarium, there examples of full-blooded elves (ex. Arwen and Luthien) who willingly sacrifice their immortality to spend a mortal lifetime with the humans they love.
The Elves came into existence before Men, and when Elves die they pass to the Halls of Mandos in Valinor. Elves come of age at around fifty years old, and generally marry around this age. Elves who marry late or never are said to have strange fates.
So to them 100 years feels like what 20 years feels like to a Human. In most of the D&D editions a level 1 starting elf is between 100 to 120 years old. So you starting at 120 is still a young elf getting ready to become independent and experience the world for themselves.
Elves typically reach maturity around the same age as humans, however their lifespan is infinite. How old are Santa's elves? Santa's elves are a variety of ages from 25 – 2025.
The calculation I use to help players understand the maturity differences is to convert all other ages into the human equivalent. So a 16 year old half-elf is approximately 8.4 years old in human maturity terms. A 16 year old elf would be 3.8 years.
Who is the youngest elf LOTR? Narrative. Arwen was the youngest child of Elrond, lord of the Elvish sanctuary of Rivendell and leader of the High Elves remaining in Middle-earth at the end of the Third Age, and Celebrían, daughter of Galadriel, ruler of the Elvish forest realm of Lothlórien.
Elf mothers are with child for 1 year. Once born, elves' minds and bodies initially grow rapidly, advancing past the infant and toddler stage within the first year. Development then slows down and an elf is mentally in adolescence for roughly the next 49 years.
However elves reproduce so infrequently that siblings can be decades if not centuries apart. So an elven child may never meet their siblings if they don't return home or make an effort to see them when the reach adulthood. They vmay also be the only elf born to a village for several years.
Middle age for a blood elf or high elf is around 175. They aren't really considered old until age 260 or so; a venerable quel'dorei is around 350 years old, and the maximum life span for a high elf or blood elf is 360-400 years of age.
Elves have sexual intercourse, just as we do. This, by the way, is why Elves and Men can reproduce and have fertile Half-Elven offspring.
Elves mate for life, and it's a long, long life they've got, too. Also, this is actually very Mark 10:8 of Tolkien, which should be no surprise.
Elves marry only once (with only one known, very special, exception), but there's no rule about them loving only once. For example, Finwe loved Miriel, and then he loved Indis. Likewise, Finduilas loved Gwindor, and then she loved Turin.
When elves die, their spirits travel to the Halls, where they rest for a time as disembodied shades. Most of them are then returned to corporeal form and rejoin all the other elves living in Valinor.
Elves who die or are killed go to the Halls of Mandos in Valinor. After a certain period of time and rest, their spirits (fëar) are incarnated in bodies (hröar) identical to their old ones. They almost never go back to Middle-earth, however.
5 Answers. According to Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes (p. 38), in the "Dreams from Beyond Memory" sidebar: Yes, elves can sleep, but find dreams to be mysterious and weird so they generally choose not to. Elves can sleep and dream just like any human, but almost all surface elves avoid doing so.
In Middle-earth, half-elves are the children of Elves and Men, and can choose either Elvish immortality or the mortal life of Men. The elf-maidens Lúthien and Arwen in Tolkien's works both chose mortality to be with the Men that they loved.
In the original Tolkien lore, the Elves were beckoned by the Valar to leave Middle-earth and seek out the Blessed Realm of Valinor. Weary from centuries of battling evil and fearing the inevitable fading, the Elves left the lands of Middle-earth for the future of Men and Dwarves after the destruction of the One Ring.
The reason the Elves fade is that humans are meant (by Eru Ilúvatar, i.e. God) to become the predominant race in Middle-earth – a concept known as "the Dominion of Men." The Dominion of Men is considered to begin at the crowning of Aragorn as announced by Gandalf.
