Aneurysm Size
Aneurysms that are: Less than 3 mm in size have a low risk of rupture. Larger than 3 mm have a higher risk of bursting.
An aneurysm occurs when a portion of the aorta has enlarged to at least 1.5 times its normal size. Aortic aneurysms less than 4 centimeters in size have a low chance of bursting, but an aneurysm more than 5.5 centimeters in diameter has an increasing chance of rupturing in the next year.
Aneurysms that carry the greatest risk of rupture are those that are larger than 7 milliliters in diameter, are located in the posterior or anterior arteries, and have a “daughter sac.” These “daughter aneurysms,” have a complex shape and an additional bulge on the top or dome, Dr. Teitelbaum says.

Can people live a long time with a brain aneurysm? Absolutely. Many aneurysms cause no symptoms at all. Some people live for years without knowing they have a brain aneurysm.
It takes approximately 30 years for an aneurysm to grow 10 mm. There is a local minimum growth rate, and this local minimum growth rate is at 6.5 mm for rm = 4.77 mm, 7.5 mm for rm = 5.77 mm, and 9 mm for rm = 6.77 mm. Also, this local minimum growth rate is between 0.2 – 0.3 mm/yr and increases with rm.
Whether you have had treatment such as clipping or coiling or doctors are managing your unruptured aneurysm without surgery, you can expect to continue most normal activities, unless your doctors advise you otherwise — and depending on circumstances, that can also include flying.
Strong emotions, such as being upset or angry, can raise blood pressure and can subsequently cause aneurysms to rupture.

Your risk of developing a brain aneurysm increases as you get older, with most cases diagnosed in people over the age of 40. This may be because the walls of the blood vessels are weakened over time by the constant pressure of blood flowing through them.
You can't always prevent brain aneurysms, but you can lower your risk by not smoking and by reducing high blood pressure.
Symptoms of a ruptured brain aneurysm usually begin with a sudden agonising headache. It's been likened to being hit on the head, resulting in a blinding pain unlike anything experienced before.
