Just mute the person.
Here's how to mute someone on WhatsApp:
You have the option of selecting as many as you wish. Step 4: Long tap the contact on Android and then click the [down arrow] at the top of the screen. Swipe to the left on iOS, or long touch the contact and select the archive option.
Open a chat with the contact, then tap the name of the contact > Block > Block. Open the WhatsApp chat with the unknown phone number. Tap Block.
You can mute the status updates of a particular contact so they won't appear towards the top of the Status tab anymore.
Blocking someone on WhatsApp is pretty straightforward but the blocked person will not be notified of the move. There are, however, clues. Users will no longer see a contact's last seen or online status in the chat window.

If someone is tormenting, causing pain or discomfort, or refusing to leave you alone, then blocking them may be necessary. In such cases, the psychology of blocking can be empowering, providing a sense of relief and peace of mind, while putting a stop to unwanted messages and posts on social media.
WhatsApp won't notify the other person if you archive the conversation, as it doesn't inform them if you've deleted it. It also doesn't have any effect on your online status – all archived chats will still show if you're online.
Once a chat is archived, you will still receive messages from other participants in the conversation. If you do get a message in an archived chat, you will receive a message notification and the chat will return to the main 'Chats' menu.
