Do you need to watch it in 3D? No, but it's the way Cameron has intended. Unlike some other movies, Avatar 2 is an example of “natively authored 3D”, filmed using the Sony CineAlta Venice 3D camera which is IMAX certified.
You may avoid wearing glasses when watching a 3D movie. Instead, wear contact lenses if you have them. You can wear comfortably 3D glasses with contacts. The 3D glasses do not affect your vision power, but rather aid each eye in seeing brilliant, vivid images.
The 4DX throws you even deeper into the experience and it's an incredibly fun novelty experience but you absolutely need to see this in IMAX 3D first before you dive into the water effects and atmospherics that the 4DX experience provides. I usually choose one format or the other but for this movie and this movie over.
