Cheeks are often very asymmetrical to start with and the injector may choose to attempt to correct it during the treatment. Sometimes asymmetry will occur because one side is more swollen or bruised. Mostly symmetry issues will resolve automatically by the time of the review appointment.
When done correctly, filler injections should result in a more symmetrical appearance. However, if too much filler is injected into one side of the face, it can cause asymmetry. This can make the face look uneven and can be difficult to correct.
If your cheeks are uneven or asymmetrical, your provider can add more filler into one cheek over the other to create balance.
So how long does cheek filler take to settle in the skin? It takes 14 days at most for cheek filler injections to settle. Even better, a dermal filler procedure is low-risk and has no downtime.
This happens when the filler was injected too superficially. Patient may take notice to the uneven appearance several weeks post treatment or 3+ months post treatment when the body starts to slowly metabolize the filler. Additional areas that can be “botched” are cheekbones, chin, marionette lines, etc.
The filler can take several weeks to soften and settle into your skin. This means that patients won't see the ultimate results of their treatment immediately. Although individual results will vary, many people achieve the full effect within two weeks after receiving their injections.
It is not uncommon to experience a small degree of asymmetry immediately post-treatment due to the potential for swelling and bruising. Juvederm can take up to 4 weeks to integrate, so it is best to wait and review in 2-4 weeks with your Injector at which point you will have a better idea of the final result.
Cheek highlights in a younger patient – often only 1ml. In reality many of my patients looking for improvement of a specific area only need about 1-2ml on average. Most people are surprised at the difference just one syringe of filler can make to a problem area.
To give you an answer to "How much is too much?" for cheek fillers, our answer is: anything more than 2ml (1ml per cheek) in 1 session is too much. You can build up the amount of filler in your cheeks, but this has to be done gradually over several visits.
Within the first two weeks after your injections, lumps and bumps are normal because the cheek filler is settling. If they are particularly pronounced, your injector may recommend massaging the filler. Secondly, if it is after two weeks, your injector will likely still recommend massage first.
Fortunately, dermal fillers work very quickly, and you won't have to wait twelve months to see the full benefits of your injections. That said, these injectable treatments take some time to integrate into your tissues, and it's normal for your dermal filler to take up to two weeks to fully settle into your face.
Lumps are actually a common side effect after a dermal filler or lip enhancement treatment. Often they are a short-term problem, but if need be, they are totally correctable by a trained aesthetic medical professional.

Cheek fillers are one that can be somewhat firm, but not hard. Patients often ask before or after their injections, “Will cheek filler soften?” The answer is almost always yes.
Treating with 1ml at a time is certainly appropriate for some areas, such as volumising lips or having smaller tweakments into other areas of the face. Sometimes, however, more than 1ml may be required – in the cheeks, for example – as 1ml may not make a discernible difference.

The Good: Patients who experience strange side effects such as having a weird smile or a “Joker” smile after lip injections can rest assured knowing that this is a common side effect, as a result of swelling after the procedure. Wait up to a week before worrying about your weird smile.
The treatment involves injecting a dermal filler into the folds to add volume and smooth out the creases. While there are potential side effects to consider, you can still smile after getting a nasolabial fold filler. In fact, many people choose the treatment specifically to enhance their smile.
There may be redness and swelling. The cheeks may have a more “sharp” look about them, but when the swelling goes down after 2 days, the sharpness will reduce and give way to a more natural appearance. Patients often like the swelling in the first couple of days.
Swelling will reach its peak at around 24-72 hours after treatment, at which point, it will begin to gradually subside. Occasionally, swelling can last for 1-4 weeks, but this isn't as common. Most people do see an improvement within 3 days.
Your cheeks change the way your eyes look
A good baseline or rule of thumb is to be able to see a bit of your cheeks when you look down. If you see a whole lot of cheeks when you look down, it means you have too much dermal fillers.
While massage can sometimes improve mild symptoms such as moderate lumpiness or slight asymmetry, don't perform massage on your fillers unless instructed to do so by your plastic surgeon or injector.
