This movie is a great classic and is not that explicit for a rated r movie. 13+ is a good age to allow your child to watch this movie and 12 is also a good age allow your kid to watch Child's Play but you should probably watch it with them if they're 12.
The “R” rating from the MPAA ought to give you a good idea that Child's Play isn't going to be the best film for your ten-year-old's birthday party. If that isn't enough to dissuade you, I must point out that this film has some of the gooiest gore I've seen in a horror film for a while.
Parents need to know that Child's Play is a 1988 horror movie in which a doll possessed by a recently-deceased serial killer goes after a little boy and those around him. There are a few killings, the violence mostly of an unreal horror-movie variety (an electrocution victim gets charred and bloody, like hamburger).

I actually found "Child's Play" to be a very scary film. I did not find it too gory, but what gore there is it was done to heighten intensity levels to the extreme. All in all,I wholeheartedly recommend it to any open-minded viewer, who likes to watch horror movies. The hammer in the head scene still gives me goosebumps.
