By some accounts, Death Stranding was a flop when it first came out. According to one ResetEra post from 2020, Sony was reportedly unhappy with the game's sales, with the author of the post claiming 3 million copies of Death Stranding were sitting in warehouses as of March of that year.
Death Stranding received generally positive reviews, with critics praising its voice acting, soundtrack, and visuals, with more mixed opinions regarding its gameplay and story. The game was nominated for and won several awards, including for game of the year. By July 2021, the game had sold 5 million copies worldwide.
It's time consuming for no reason, most of the map is empty and there is nothing to explore. Just there to make you feel "immersed in this post apocalyptic world". I can go on forever, if you like the game you like it, this is your personal opinion but you cannot deny this game flopped.
The game has sold 10 million copies on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC since releasing in November 2019, putting it up against some of the best-selling first-party PlayStation games including The Last of Us II (this was only available on PS4, though).
By comparison, the game's budget was said to be somewhere in the range of around $70 million, so the game has definitely recouped its initial investment. It's also received critical acclaim and won a number of awards, solidifying its success as an IP.
Death Stranding
Death Stranding has earned its place in the hall of fame for being one of the most boring games of all time. That said, a lot of fans will argue that its slow tempo is what makes the game the award-winning masterpiece it is.
Kojima's personal take is that the dead are never truly gone from our lives. “You just can't see them,” he says, “but you're connected.” Indeed, Death Stranding's biggest theme is connection, and Kojima sees a world in disarray.
According to HLTB, the crown for longest overall video game belongs to Melvor Idle, a Runescape-inspired idle/incremental game with an estimated playtime of 3,126 hours. On the other end of the spectrum lies Trivia Vault: Super Heroes Trivia with an estimated playtime of 1 minute and 12 seconds.
Death stranding is a creative game with great actors and a great story. I love the gameplay it's different from other games these days. It's beautiful to look at the landscape of the world. It's unlike anything you played before.
The controversy focuses on asexuality, a topic that often receives a lack of attention, and it would have been easy for Death Stranding to ignore the issue.
Much of the crying in Death Stranding is just a slightly more complex version of the kind of allergies many people experience. Instead of being allergic to cats, dust, or tree pollen, Sam 'Porter' Bridges and many of the primary characters have an allergic response to something called Chiralium.
The altered geography of Death Stranding's America is a result of the Timefall, and synchs well with the game's themes, while the smaller map size, of course, is simply a necessary compromise to making it a playable game.
By all accounts, Death Stranding has just one ending, which is essentially a feature-length cutscene. Kojima wanted to tell the story in a very specific way, so unless some intrepid explorer discovers some ultra-secret hidden ending, assume that there's only one way for the game to end.
How long does it take to beat Death Stranding (Windows)? The estimated time to complete all 63 Death Stranding (Windows) achievements is 80-100 hours. This estimate is based on the modal completion time from 99 TrueAchievements members that have completed the game.

Death Stranding is addicting and the reason it is addicting is because you are always getting something done even when it feels and looks like you are doing nothing. Since traveling is the game and you are always moving in a direction, no time is wasted. Every moment is precious, every second essential.
There are many obstacles in your way as you play the game, and I'd say that, for the most part, the difficulty is just right if you take into account the game as a whole. There's no one part that's incredibly hard to beat, but you'll definitely feel like you've come a long way by the time you put the controller down.
It mostly makes sense, although you'll have to suspend disbelief to make some things work but it's probably a little less confusing than some of the more massively convoluted Metal Gear games conclusions. So read this explainer for the Death Stranding ending and hopefully it will all come together.
The Longing is a point-and-click adventure game that takes place in an underground kingdom. The player controls the Shade, a lonely creature serving an elderly king. After the king falls asleep to regain his diminished powers, the Shade is tasked with awakening its master after 400 days in real time.
In fact, most of the negative reviews seem to be complaining about frustrating controls and the game's bizarre narrative as opposed to a lack of shooting. Regardless of why some critics gave Death Stranding low review scores, it will be interesting to see if Kojima's next game triggers a similar response.
The veteran voice actor portrayed villain Higgs Monaghan, a terrorist who tries to prevent players from reconnecting America, in the first game.
