In Norse mythology, Heimdall (from Old Norse Heimdallr) is a god. He is the son of Odin and nine mothers. Heimdall keeps watch for invaders and the onset of Ragnarök from his dwelling Himinbjörg, where the burning rainbow bridge Bifröst meets the sky.
In Norse mythology, Heimdall was one of the Aesir, watchman of the gods, guardian of the heavenly realm of Asgard, and ruler of holy places. His father was the principal god, Odin, and according to the 'Prose (or Younger) Edda', he had not one but nine mothers; they were maidens who were sisters.
Heimdall was one of many sons of Odin.
Heimdall was born to Odin and his third wife who was one of the Nine Daughters of Ægir and Rán. Heimdall grew up in Asgard alongside his younger brother Baldur, and as an adult, he was given the Gjallarhorn by his father and was tasked with protecting Asgard and warning the Aesir when Ragnarök begins.
Heimdall possesses the powers of a typical Asgardian, including superhuman strength, stamina, speed, agility and durability. However, he is generally stronger and more durable than all but a few Asgardians, such as Odin and Thor.
Heimdall. The clearest definition of someone who is worthy of wielding Mjolnir is someone who is willing to put the safety of Asgard above their own. As the protector of the Bifrost, this is Heimdall's whole job.
I would say Baldur. Even vulnerable, he is physically much stronger and faster than Heimdall. And the "Bifrost Arm" Heimdall lost much of his foresight at this stage. @Gradevole I agree, Baldur is a much more skilled and durable warrior than Heimdall.
Heimdall in Norse Mythology
Heimdall has always hated Loki, partly because he is part Jotnar, and partly because he is able to slip in and out of Asgard outside the watchful eye of the protector of the Bifrost.
Due to his repeated threats to harm Atreus, Kratos loses his temper and kills Heimdall by strangling him, with the god calling the the warrior a monster. His demise acted as the downfall for the All-Father, as he lost Asgard's guardian and the key that warned him of Ragnarök.
Loki killed Heimdall in Norse mythology, but he in turn kills Loki. This occurs during Ragnarok, the Twilight of the Gods.
Scholars have debated what being "born of nine mothers" implies and have sought to connect the notion to other European folk motifs. Scholars have theorized that Heimdallr's Nine Mothers may be identical to the Nine Daughters of Ægir and Rán, who personify waves. In turn, Heimdallr would be born of the sea.
Though Odin appearing afterwards did help with Heimdall leaving Atreus alone. Remember how Thor said "Look into my eyes" and then stared at his hammer right after he threatened Heimdall? It's because he was going to shove it up his ass. That's why he said "you are a sick man".
Heimdall, Old Norse Heimdallr, in Norse mythology, the watchman of the gods. Called the shining god and whitest skinned of the gods, Heimdall dwelt at the entry to Asgard, where he guarded Bifrost, the rainbow bridge.
Axl Heimdallson, born Astrid Heimdallson, is the son of Heimdall and Grace who inherited Heimdall's all-seeing eyes. During his life in New Asgard, Norway, Axl became a fan of Guns N' Roses and renamed himself after their lead singer, Axl Rose.
Various scholars have interpreted this as a reference to the Nine Daughters of Ægir and Rán, personifications of waves. This would therefore mean Heimdall is born from the waves, an example of a deity born from the sea.
He has two sons, Balder by his first wife Frigg and Thor by Jord. Odin also has several animals. His two ravens Hugin and Munin (thought and memory) fly around the world and report back what they see.
Had Odin sent Heimdall instead of Baldur, Kratos would likely not have been compelled to take Atreus on the journey that he was unprepared for, ending the Norse saga before it began.
When the original legends of Heimdall were crafted, the Vikings were liking unaware that any other ethnicity existed – ergo, they didn't create him as explicitly caucasian; he was just always conceived that way because they didn't know that there could be any other physical appearance.
Odin allows it. But with Heimdall dead, Atreus decides he should return to Asgard. Odin will soon figure out that Kratos killed Heimdall, and that will surely lead to war.
As an Asgardian and Thor's trusted friend, Heimdall knew he would prefer to meet an honorable death while saving his people instead of being saved at the cost of their lives. In turn, Heimdall chose to save Bruce Banner because, even in his Hulk-induced rage, he knew where his allegiances lay.
Following Heimdall's unblockable Bifrost Sword Slam, he'll become temporarily stunned and vulnerable to melee attacks.
To hurt him, Kratos must detonate the spear while Heimdall is holding it, which will stagger him for a brief moment. Sadly, it will be impossible to land any direct hits on Heimdall until his stagger meter has been filled, so players will need to repeat this process a few times.
No. Heimdall was stronger and more capable than the average Asgardian male, but he wasn't anywhere near a match for Thor. Thor is physically the strongest Asgardian; his closest rival in terms of raw strength is Hel. Those two are followed by Odin, Thor's half-brother Vidar, Balder, Loki, Valkyrie, and Sif.
Baldur was an Aesir born to Odin and Freya and was the younger half-brother of Thor, Týr and Heimdall.
Heimdall possesses all the typical superhuman attributes common to the Gods of Asgard: Superhuman Strength: Like all members of his race, Heimdall is superhumanly strong. He is somewhat stronger than the average male Asgardian and is capable of lifting about 50 tons.
