Vaginal medicines usually will come out of the vagina during treatment. To keep the medicine from getting on your clothing, wear a mini-pad or sanitary napkin. The use of tampons is not recommended since they may soak up the medicine. To help clear up the infection, wear freshly washed cotton, not synthetic, underwear.

Clotrimazole reduces vaginal burning, itching, and discharge that may occur with this condition. This medication is an azole antifungal. It works by stopping the growth of yeast (fungus) that causes the infection. The vaginal product comes in 2 forms (a vaginal cream or tablet).
Clotrimazole works by killing the overgrowth of yeast that is causing the infection. The symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection should start to improve within a few hours after starting this medication, but it may take as long as a week for the symptoms to go away completely.
As a guide, infections such as athlete's foot usually clear up within a week or so of treatment, although infections affecting some other areas of the body can take slightly longer. If there are no signs of improvement after two weeks of using clotrimazole, you should make an appointment to see your doctor for advice.
It usually takes around 7 days of clotrimazole treatment for fungal infections to improve. Apply clotrimazole to the infected area 2 or 3 times a day for at least 2 weeks.
Since the pessary dissolves in the vagina, it may be helpful to wear a panty liner because it is quite common to notice a slight white residue (chalky) after using the pessary. This does not mean that the treatment has not worked. The symptoms of thrush should disappear within three days of treatment.

Clotrimazole works by killing the yeast that causes the fungal infection. It usually treats thrush within 7 days but it's best to treat the infection for at least 2 weeks to stop it coming back. The most common side effect is an itching or burning feeling in the area being treated.
Clotrimazole may cause side effects. If you experience any of these symptoms, stop using clotrimazole and call your doctor: blistering, redness, swelling, itching, burning, stinging, peeling, hives, or skin cracks.
Clotrimazole should only be used for 3 days if you're using the 2% cream and 7 days if you're using the 1% cream. If you still have vaginal yeast infection symptoms after completing the 3-day or 7-day treatment, you should contact your healthcare provider.
How long you use clotrimazole for depends on the type of infection you have. It's best to use it for at least 2 weeks, even if all signs of the infection have gone, to stop it from coming back. You can use it for up to 4 weeks if needed.
