Throwing or leaving food behind unattended, to feed stray dogs is an irresponsible act. It may attract flies and rodents that could transmit infectious diseases. Leaving stagnant water in containers without the intention of clearing may lead to mosquito breeding.
1. Wild animals don't need your help. Wild animals may show up looking for a handout, but they don't really need help from humans to find food. Their natural diet is healthiest for them, and 'human food' can even make them sick.
Animal activists have long argued that stray dogs have an inalienable right to life and food and no one should be prevented to feed dogs that reside in their communities. Others vociferously contend they have rapidly become a health hazard and should be placed in shelters where they may be adopted or euthanized.
Be careful about what you feed them
Generally, home-cooked food like plain rice, rotis, boiled vegetables, etc. easily suffice for pets as well as stray animals. They should not be fed spicy, sweet, deep fried, masaledar and/or salty food, as it is extremely harmful for their bodies.
Feeding wildlife can lead to a number of serious problems: Human food is not healthy for wild animals, and they do not need food from humans to survive. Wild animals have specialized diets, and they can become malnourished or die if fed the wrong foods.
In addition to rabies, there are many other infectious diseases that can be spread from stray animals to humans. These diseases can be anything from severe wound infections to parasite infections.
Dogs: Dog is not only human's best friend but also safeguard you from the wrath of planets like Saturn, Rahu and Ketu. Usually, people feed rotti to a black dog on Saturday, as it is believed that it saves them from malefic effects of Saturn.
Make sure to carry plenty of water bottles and bowls with you while on a stray dog feeding drive especially during summers. Try to keep a water bowl outside your society or house gates so that any wandering stray dog, cat or other stray animal can at least get a sip of clean water every day.

This negatively impacts both the cats and wildlife. For cats it can result in direct conflicts with wild animals, predation, disease transmission and complaints from neighbors. For wildlife, regular human handouts can result in habituation where wild animals associate people with food.
Check if they are really a stray dog
Do a quick search of the area to see if you can find it. You should also check the area to make sure their owner isn't close by, looking for them! If you can find the owner's contact details on their collar, ring immediately and tell them that their dog is safe.
5) They are Excellent Guard Dogs
If you are adopting a stray pup, ensure they are socialized well at their puppyhood itself. This will make them behave well with known people while being firm with strangers. Like other famous guard dogs, street dogs can even put their life on the line to save their owners from threat.
If the animal appears to be in distress, or is not local to the area, calling the animal control officer will be your best choice. They will know what to do for such animals. Calling animal control is especially important if the animal is threatening your family in any way. If you don't know the number, call 911.
However, if your rescue dog has not been bathed yet, or if he was in the shelter for any length of time, smells of his former life and smells of the shelter, where other dogs are living in kennels and cages and doing their business inside, can cling to fur. You will want to give your rescue dog a bath.
If you see stray puppies outside, you can consider giving milk, which is diluted with water. The reason milk is to be diluted with water because dogs have a varying degree of lactose intolerance. With a little water mixed with it, it becomes safe for the street dogs to eat.

Meals can be given 1-2 times a day. If meals are provided regularly at the same time every day, the cats quickly learn when and where to expect food and might even wait for you. Meal times are a good time to observe and keep track of any changes in the health and temperament of the cats.
