Legitimacy of war Fighting in self-defense is not only legitimate but considered obligatory upon Muslims, according to the Qur'an. The Qur'an, however, says that should the enemy's hostile behavior cease, then the reason for engaging the enemy also lapses.
Islam allows war in self-defence (Qur'an 22:39), to defend Islam (rather than to spread it), to protect those who have been removed from their homes by force because they are Muslims (Qur'an 22:40), and to protect the innocent who are being oppressed (Qur'an 4:75).

Worshipping anyone or anything other than God, known as shirk, is the most major sin for a Muslim.
Ithm is also associated with what is considered the worst sin of all, shirk. Shirk signifies associating partners with God. The Quran states that: He who associates with God has surely forged a great sin (ithm).
He said, “Associating others with Allah (shirk); witchcraft; killing a soul whom Allah has forbidden us to kill, except in cases dictated by Islamic law; devouring orphans' wealth; consuming Riba; fleeing from the battlefield; and slandering chaste and innocent women.”
The Qur'ān enjoins the performance of prayers even during military operations (Q 4:102), albeit in a modified way. This type of prayer is called Ṣalāt al-Khawf, “the prayer of fear,” and it has been described as a uniquely Islamic prayer.

The soldiers of Allah consist of the believers, the angels who fill the heavens and the earth, and what we perceive to be good calamities and what we perceive to be bad including, natural disasters, floods, winds and the earthquakes. These are among the soldiers of Allah.
