But there is evidence in episodes that suggest Shaggy – and to an extent, his best buggy Scooby –are smoking weed. While it's never visibly seen in the franchise, their personality and actions hint at the stereotypical
Scott Innes, a voice actor best known for voicing Shaggy on Scooby-Doo confirmed on Twitch that the character isn't as into smoking marijuana as some fans believe. The character of Shaggy is one of a lazy hippy who has a seemingly bottomless stomach, which some fans have theorized is due to him secretly being a smoker.
In Scooby-Doo! and the Monster of Mexico, it is revealed by Fred that the reason Shaggy eats so much (while maintaining his slender physique) is his "high metabolism".
Personality. Shaggy is something of a hippy due to his generally laid back persona, his hair, clothes, and his inappropriate use of slipping in the word "Like" in his speech. Even though throughout the years, he's tried to be the average teen, he's still stuck being labelled as a hippy.
While Shaggy shows hints of true Paranoid personality disorder, it's clearly not full blown as he generally trusts the rest of the Mystery Inc. gang, though not fully.
Velma Dinkley is Shaggy's official love interest in Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated; it is the first series to have an officially stated romantic relationship between the two.
Unlike Scooby, Shaggy is present in the show. He is just not called "Shaggy" and is only referred to by his real name, Norville. Also, Shaggy aka Norville, like Velma and Daphne, is race-swapped and is now an African-American man instead of a Caucasian.
Dynamic. Despite their many differences, Shaggy and Daphne are very close friends who are loyal to each other and have each others backs.
Crystal is the main female protagonist of Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders. She is a government agent from another planet posing as an Earth government agent/photographer, and Shaggy Rogers' love interest. She was using cool lingo that Shaggy could appreciate; she also dressed in a 60's hippy style.
Mystery Incorporated, Velma is in a romantic relationship with Shaggy, much to the distaste of Scooby-Doo. Their relationship ends in "Howl of the Fright Hound" (season 1, episode 10).
Shaggy's passive allows him to enter rage. During rage, his special attacks hit harder and cover more ground. His special moves also give him armor during the attack and apply maximum stacks of weakened debuff to hit enemies. Rage is consumed after a special attack is used.
But despite all his abilities, Shaggy has his weakness. For one he his a coward; along with Scooby he also fears ghosts and monsters.
Shaggy from Scooby-Doo doesn't have a Adam's apple.
From the van to his appearance, Shaggy was most likely modeled after the stereotypical hippie stoner stereotype in the '70s. They couldn't show him smoking explicitly on a kids' show, but they could use direct reference that only adults would understand.
Shaggy also had a love interest in the live-action 2002 movie, Scooby-Doo. The girl's name was Mary Jane (ha-ha…so funny). She was allergic to dogs and also loved Scooby Snacks like Shaggy!
Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed
After Scooby drinks one and becomes a monster, Shaggy tries to find an antidote. He gets some of the potion on his hand and drinks it, which turn him into a woman from the neck down and turns Scooby into the Tasmanian Devil.
Shaggy's height is confirmed at 6 feet, and Scooby can easily put his paws on Shaggy's shoulders when standing on his back feet. Down on all fours, however, it is estimated that Scooby has a height of around 3.3 feet when measured from his shoulders.
This episode shows the first-ever (and only) kiss between Shaggy and Daphne (both were under the influence of hallucinogenic wood and thought the circumstances were different; Daphne would have reconciled with Fred had the circumstances been what she thought).
After reading it, Fred loses his misogynistic perspective on women and begins realizing his behaviour was wrong. He also gains a crush on Velma, but Velma no longer has a crush on him due to witnessing his immature and selfish personality.
Eventually, he realizes he loves Daphne, and during episode 24, Dead Justice, Fred proposes to her, but the engagement is short-lived.
For Velma, the series has been marketed as an adult animated comedy. So their target audience is those 18 and older. According to HBO Max, the mature rating is also due to sexual situations and violence. If you've seen the trailer, there's talk of murder, drinking, and drugs.
Velma is Indian American. Norville is Black. Daphne is Asian. This caused some kerfuffle.
Fred Jones is the tritagonist of the 2023 HBO Max animated show Velma. In stark contrast to many other representations of the character, Fred in the show is depicted to be a stereotypical rich white man who acts entitled and childish.
