You should mostly eat: Fresh, organic vegetables that have been steamed. For this cleanse stage, keep away from any starchy vegetables like carrots, radishes, beets, sweet potatoes and white potatoes, which may contribute to excess sugar levels and feed the candida.
Avoid starchy vegetables such as carrots, sweet potatoes, potatoes, yams, corn, all squash except zucchini, beets, peas, parsnips and all beans except green beans. They all contain sugar and can lead to Candida overgrowth. You should buy your vegetables fresh and eat them raw, steam or grill them.
Foods to Avoid on the Yeast-Free Diet
If you're trying to avoid foods that feed candida, proponents of the yeast-free diet recommend cutting the following foods from your diet: potatoes, processed meats, canned fruits, added sugars, sugar alcohols and disaccharides (lactose, sucrose).
Breads, cakes, biscuits, cookies, crackers, flour, milk, hamburgers buns, hotdog buns, pastries, pretzels, rolls, any meat fried with a breading. The following substances contain yeast, or yeast-like substances because of their nature or nature of their manufacturer or preparation.
Yeast-free grains include items made from corn, rice, oats, and dense wheat products such as pasta. It is not necessary to avoid gluten while following a yeast-free diet as yeast and gluten are not similar. Gluten is a protein found in some grains that helps them to keep their shape by providing a glue-like texture.
Potatoes are high in starch, which is ideal for culturing yeast. They also contain plenty of micro-nutrients, making them a better yeast starter than sugar alone.
Yeast is not usually added to foods that do not require a rising agent. Pasta and noodles, including gluten-free pasta, Thai, Chinese or other Asian noodles are not made with added yeast. These are dense foods that would fall apart if yeast were added and the dough allowed to rise.
Sweet potato extracts have been shown to exhibit antibacterial and antifungal activities, glycaemic control functions, and carotenoids have been shown to exhibit antioxidant and anticancer activity.
Fresh Vegetables
Root vegetables such as carrots and potatoes can be eaten in moderation but beware as they contain carbohydrates that will turn to sugar once eaten. Frozen, canned or jarred vegetables can be eaten but should be consumed in moderation – in general fresh is always best.
Candida is a yeast that can cause oral and genital infections if it becomes overgrown or out of balance with other microbes. Antifungals, such as Diflucan, can kill candida quite successfully. To keep candida infections from recurring, probiotics and herbal antimicrobials are a useful longer-term solution.
You are allowed to eat:
potatoes, brown rice and brown pasta, buckwheat. full grain bread, crisp bread, also sugar free wholemeal. baking products (those baked with yeast only if you are not allergic to yeast) fruits which are not so sweet, fruit low on carbohydrates like strawberries or raspberries etc.
The following food items may cause or worsen a yeast infection: Caffeinated coffee and tea, sugar-sweetened beverages, and alcohol-type beverages. Processed meats and farm-raised fish. Peanuts, pecans, pistachios, and cashews.
Since it contains sugars, honey can work to feed your yeast, helping it produce the natural byproduct of carbon dioxide and alcohol. But the ingredient has other qualities that can negatively affect the yeast.
You can include eggs in your Candida diet plan in moderation by choosing organic, pasture-raised eggs and limiting your intake to 2-3 eggs per week. Consider cooking your eggs in healthy fats, such as coconut oil or avocado oil, to reduce inflammation.
Yogurt is one of the most common fermented milk products in the world. It is produced by the addition of homofermentative lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and some yeasts to milk and is a LAB fermentation product. Therefore, yogurt contains large quantities of LAB and their metabolites, which are beneficial to human health.
Yeast is always present during coffee fermentation, but using a specific strain in a controlled environment can unlock unique flavour characteristics. While some are concerned that controlling fermentation with yeasts can make all coffees taste the same, this may not be the case.
Berries & Grapes
Yeast is not only added to foods, but it also grows in the wild. It is found in small amounts on berries and grapes. For some with a yeast allergy, this small amount is enough to cause an allergic reaction.
There are also some antifungal teas, like turmeric tea and ginger tea, that will help to fight a Candida overgrowth. And of course there's our sugar-free eggnog, which is a huge favorite through the holiday season. Other safe options for drinks on the Candida diet include herbal teas and chicory coffee.
The first key is to eliminate foods that have yeast in them and foods that yeast likes to eat. This means cutting out vinegar, beer, wine, mushrooms (as part of the fungi family, they can cross-react with Candida) and sugar, refined carbs, processed foods.
Some women have success in preventing and treating yeast infections when they consume yogurt (or a probiotic supplement) regularly.
