Cook is the ghost city of the Nullarbor and one of the best ghost town experiences in Australia. The old saying was “if you're crook, come to Cook,” because of the old bush hospital that used to operate here. Passengers on the Indian Pacific will stop in Cook for a look around.

Long-forgotten gold rush towns and deserted railroad villages pepper Australia's vast outback. Some have been meticulously preserved, frozen in time for more than a century – others have been left to the whims of Mother Nature and are nothing more than a knot of ruins.

Steiglitz. Located between Geelong and Ballarat, Steiglitz is an almost-literal ghost town, home to only a handful of residents. Closure. On July 16, 2002, the chairlift stopped, stranding passengers for over two hours. With fewer people visiting Ghost Town because of the bad condition of the park, Coburn closed Ghost Town a few days after the chairlift failure and put the park up for sale.
