White chocolate is made of cocoa butter, sugar, milk solids, vanilla, and a fatty food additive called lecithin.
White chocolate contains cocoa butter, milk (fat and solids), and sweeteners (such as sugar) as the main ingredients. White chocolate may also contain additional flavoring (such as vanilla or cinnamon) and emulsifiers (such as lecithin derived from soy, egg, or sunflower) to improve texture.
What is white chocolate? White chocolate is made of cocoa butter that comes from the cocoa bean, which all chocolate is made from. It is known by its pale ivory color and buttery, milky sweet taste. White chocolate's luscious creaminess makes it the perfect match for ice cream.
Chocolate does not contain eggs. However in rare instances there are chocolates that use egg lecithin as an emulsifier and may need to be avoided, as well as chocolates with a cream or fondant filling, like the popular Cadbury Creme Egg.
In theory, manufacturing white chocolate could be done with only cocoa butter, soy lecithin, and sugar. But it actually contains milk solids most of the time to add a touch of creaminess, making them not vegan-friendly.

We are happy to report that all of our chocolates – including our LINDOR and Lindt EXCELLENCE products – are suitable for vegetarians! However, some of our chocolates do use animal products but these are limited to milk, milk products, milk fat, cream, shellac and, on occasion, eggs.
With regard to natural flavors, since our CADBURY CREME EGG contains milk and egg whites, we therefore do not claim that the product is vegetarian.

Why is white chocolate white? Cocoa butter is extracted from the cocoa bean when making cocoa powder. Even though white chocolate comes from the same cacao bean as dark chocolate, it's white because it doesn't contain cocoa liquor and has a caramel-like colour.
It's actually just a scientific process called “chocolate bloom”. There are two types of this bloom: sugar bloom and fat bloom. Sugar bloom happens when moisture comes in contact with the chocolate - it dissolves the sugar crystals on the chocolate's surface, leaving a white, powdery look.
Eggs or Poultry Ingredients in Lindt Products
Poultry is not used in any of Lindt products. While eggs can be an ingredient in some of our filled chocolates and pralines, all egg and egg by-products are listed in the ingredient statement.
