Conversation. Wslm. Selected Woolworths yoghurt variants contain gelatine derived from non-Halaal slaughtered animals and are NOT approved by SANHA (bovine gelatine is clearly mentioned in ingredient list). Only the Woolworths Yoghurt gelatine-free variants are deemed Halaal suitable.
Chobani has some Halal suitable yogurts. range is not Halal certified. Chobani has stated the FiT range is also halal certified.
Halal foods (permitted by Islam)
Any food is Halal as long as it does not contain or come into contact with any of the Haram ingredients shown on the first page. For example, yogurt is Halal but not if it contains gelatin as one of the ingredients.
Almost all bread, milk, butter, cheese, yoghurt and margarine are halal certified. All of these products are naturally halal, but are now certified. Many Coles and Woolworths home branded products are also halal certified.
So, you might not realize it's in there, but it could be! And in some yogurts, it is. "You're more likely to see gelatin added to non-Greek yogurt varieties. For example, Yoplait's Greek 100 yogurt line doesn't have gelatin, whereas its light yogurt line does," she says.

Halal milk is derived from animals that are already known to be Halal such as milk from cows, sheep, or goats. Milk from an animal such as a pig would be considered Non-Halal.
Some Christian Arabs eat pork. Dairy products—widely used, especially yogurt, buttermilk and white cheese. Butter and cream are also used extensively. Herbs and spices—amounts and types used generally varies from region to region.
For gelatin-free yogurt, consider plain Greek yogurt, like Fage or Dannon's all-natural yogurt, which uses pectin, a plant-derived thickener.
For example, yogurt and pickles are fermented foods containing ethanol residues, which is acceptable for halal.
Its halal status depends on the nature of raw materials used in its manufacture. Most gelatin is one of two types: Type A gelatin is exclusively made from pork skins, and is hence Haram for Muslims to use. Type B gelatin is made either from cattle and calf skins or from demineralized cattle bones.
As with many yogurts, some Greek varieties add gelatin, which is made by boiling animals' skin, tendons, ligaments, or bones. Many also add carmine to make the yogurt appear to contain more fruit than it does.
Ice cream products may contain unacceptable ingredients, such as gelatin from non-Halal sources (for example in a marshmallow swirl). There are even alcohol-infused ice creams that contain up to 5% alcohol. In addition, some ice creams contain mono- and diglycerides, a byproduct of animal fat.
The gelatin is certified Kosher and carries KD (Kosher Dairy) Certification from Rabbi Barnett Hasden. Vanilla extract/natural vanilla/natural vanilla flavour
Vanilla extract, natural vanilla, and natural vanilla flavour are popular ingredients in ice creams, however, they are not suitable for Muslims as they are prepared by soaking vanilla pods in alcohol and water.
