To properly clean your jade roller, it's best to gently wash it after each use to remove any excess oils or serums that build upon the stone over time. Even if you simply wipe down your roller with a soft, damp cloth or towel every night, be sure to still give it a deeper clean about once a week.
It's extremely easy: Wipe the roller with a microfiber cloth that's been dipped in warm water and soap. This method works not only for jade rollers, but also rollers made from other stones like rose quartz and amethyst. Warning: You should never submerge your roller in water for extended periods of time.
Clean it after every use
Unlike your makeup brushes that can be cleaned once a week, a face massage tool needs to be cleaned every single day, after every use. Cleaning your tool will increase its effectiveness by getting rid of excess oil, dirt and product buildup from your serums and moisturisers.
However, you can use the jade roller as many times as you want, whenever your face needs a moment of soothing calmness. Jade rollers can be used in harmony with oils and serums for added penetration and absorption into the skin.
Oil your jade
(eg Johnson & Johnson baby oil) The oil cleanses the stone's surface, making it more radiant. You can use a lint-free cloth to rub the stone with a little oil. Allow the oil to rest for 5–10 minutes before wiping it away with a clean, dry towel.
Warm a few drops of your oil between the palms of your hands and press your hands to your face and neck, making sure to cover them in a coating of the oil. The oil step is optional - you can absolutely jade roll neat, sans oil!
Treat your skin to a spa like experience at home with the mini face care combo. Take your jade roller and apply a generous amount of the healing coconut oil – the two are a match made in skincare heaven. Roll over the jawline, along your cheeks and towards your ears for the best results. Top tip!
Just as it can push those deeper into the skin, it can also push dirt and makeup in too. I know I said jade rollers are easy to clean, and they are, but you do have to clean them correctly. Despite many articles saying the contrary, jade is a porous material which means it can harbor bacteria.
Skin Irritation – Fake rollers are generally made from dyed glass or marble. The chemicals used to make the dye and the fake stones can harm your skin and cause irritation.
Pulling your skin downwards with a roller might cause your skin to sag with gravity and look just like a French Bulldog over time. Always work against the gravity with your jade roller on your face and forehead. The exception is when working on both sides of your neck.
You can use your face roller every day for about 5 minutes to give an immediate boost to your appearance, but the results aren't long-lasting. Most people see results for just a few hours after treatment. “It's a temporary improvement in the overall texture and color of skin,” says Dr. Khetarpal.
If you do see an extra glow or reduced puffiness, don't get too excited. “These are all temporary results,” Friedler says. Facial massage — with a stone or otherwise — is not a magical cure for all your skin complaints.
To benefit from both of these application methods, you can start off with a warm roller and a serum, then pop your jade roller in the fridge for a quick cool-down. After a few minutes, pull your jade roller out and finish off with some cooling lymphatic drainage. Happy rolling!
Dr. Sonavane says, “You can use your jade roller on clean, dry skin without any product application and it would work just fine. But while you're at it, you can also enhance the benefits by applying your favorite serum or moisturiser followed by jade rolling.
Jade is cool to the touch, so if your roller is warm or doesn't cool down quickly after use, it's definitely not jade. However, some of the stones used in fake jade rollers like marble can also be cool to the touch, so temperature isn't always a reliable way to determine if it's fake.
Known as the spoon facial massage, this inexpensive beauty step's mainstay is a spoon. It is a great way to de-puff and massage your face. Doing this regularly results in a firmer and sculpted face in the longer run. Similar results are also achieved when one uses a jade roller or a Gua Sha.
The intensity of the colour of Jade will only change due to dirt or grease that can sometimes get trapped on the surface, or if the Jade piece has undergone colour treatment, gradually fading to its original state as time passes.
Heat from a jeweler's torch can harm jade. Jade is stable to light, and it can be affected by warm acids. Ultrasonic cleaners and steam cleaners are safe for untreated jade. But jade might be treated by dyeing, bleaching and impregnation, coatings, or heat treatment, so warm, soapy water is always a safe choice.
“This cooling helps with brightening your complexion, reducing puffiness, stimulating lymphatic drainage, and promoting blood circulation,” Krueger says. “Healthy blood circulation carries oxygen to skin cells, and it will also help penetrate products deeper into skin tissue.
"Jade rollers can be a source of bacterial spread if there are any open, infected areas on the skin," she explains. This can also be an issue for people with sensitive or acne-prone skin because "if used vigorously it can traumatize active acne bumps," spreading bacteria and increasing facial redness.
