Ideally, no; your ear canals shouldn't need cleaning. But if too much earwax builds up and starts to cause symptoms or it keeps your doctor from doing a proper ear exam, you might have something called cerumen impaction. This means earwax has completely filled your ear canal and it can happen in one or both ears.
Create a cleaning solution with equal parts of water and hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide is able to soften and break down earwax, helping it dissolve and make its way more quickly out of the ear. You may also find a commercially marketed ear drop to use for wax build-up.
You can use warm water in the shower to do this. Tilt your head to one side and run some water in your ear canal, then tilt in the opposite direction so the water flows out. Avoid getting too close to the shower head – you don't want water to spray into your ear.
Don't clean your ears regularly
You might think that you should clean your ears every day like you do your teeth. But this, unfortunately, is a bad idea. The ear canal is a naturally cleansing organ.

Contact with common irritants such as hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, water, ear drops (both prescribed and over-the-counter), or excessive ear cleaning can all cause dry, itchy ears. Some skin and hair products can irritate the skin.

In some cases, a hardened lump of wax can form in the canal, which can make it difficult to hear in that ear or even trap bacteria and cause an infection. If this happens, don't stick anything inside the ear to try to remove the wax yourself. Doing so could cause permanent hearing damage.
If you experience pain, your hearing has deteriorated, your earwax looks darker, or your ears feel blocked, don't hesitate to contact a hearing health professional. It's always best to get problems checked out and to intervene before the situation develops into something more serious.
Due to this, you shouldn't attempt to dislodge anything from your ear canal or remove earwax yourself. Digging in your ear can certainly cause damage, which may put you at risk for a range of hearing-related issues.
