Antennas should all be oriented in the same direction, pointing vertically out of the sensor. If the sensor is mounted flat on it's back on a horizontal surface, you should bend the antenna as close to the sensor housing as possible giving you the most amount of antenna pointing vertical.
A straight dipole antenna will have different polarizations when mounted either horizontally or vertically. Thus, a horizontally polarized antenna will perform better when mounted near a ceiling, whereas a vertically polarized antenna will perform better when mounted near a side wall.
Generally, you get the strongest signal if the maximum amount of the antenna is exposed to the wave, so you should position your antenna parallel to the wave front and perpendicular to the signal direction.
Both UHF & VHF signal can be an is transmitted in Vertical or horizontal. It is therefore critical that you choose an antenna that can be set in vertical mode in vertical signal locations and horizontal mode in horizontal locations.
Make an upgrade to improved antennas and cables – There are a number of different antennas and cables on the market that can help you to improve your TV signal. For example, an HD digital antenna is a good choice, as it can typically pick up signals from further away.

Vertical antennas are able to operate particularly well in many instances. Utilising their advantages means that the best can be made of what they have to offer, but against this the disadvantages should also be considered as well.
The primary advantages of vertical antennas are that they are omnidirectional, and with an appropriate ground plane (radials) yield a low radiation angle; this reduces the number of "hops" that HF signals must make to reach their destination.
For television broadcasting, the most commonly-used antennas send out signals that are horizontally polarized. That is; the plane of the TV signal is parallel to the earth's surface. That's why outdoor TV antennas are positioned horizontally and not vertically.

If you want to focus all of the signal to direct it to a distant target, then the high gain antenna is definitely the best choice. High gain antennas need to be pointed in a preferred direction to send RF signal so that limited signal can be intensified in desired location, as illustrated below.
If hills, trees, buildings, or other geographic features are in between the broadcast towers and the antenna, the signals might not be able to reach your antenna. Elevating the antenna, either by placing it in a higher location or using a taller mast, will increase the signal reception.

It may be that the root of the problem is something as simple as your caravan TV aligning itself to a different transmitter since it has moved location. This is the best-case scenario and it should be a simple task to retune your television to the new transmitter.
