Before your piercing, please make sure you have something to eat – a full meal is ideal but even a chocolate bar or fizzy drink at the bare minimum. This will ensure your blood sugar levels are at their best, minimising any risk of fainting. It is important that you are feeling good in yourself before your piercing.
Make sure to eat something a few hours before you come in. Getting pierced on an empty stomach may cause you to feel faint, nauseated, or dizzy. Allow plenty of time for your visit. Your piercing session will be most enjoyable if you have time to appreciate it.
Don't arrive drug or alcohol affected. Wear clean, comfortable clothing that is suitable for the piercing e.g know that if you wear a dress for a nipple piercing appointment – it will be coming off! If you want to – arrange for a supportive friend to go with you. Most piercers will allow this.
You can eat normal food, just take small bites and chew slowly while you're getting used to your jewelry. The only things to avoid are spicy, acidic, really salty, and crunchy foods. These can irritate your piercing and make the swelling worse.

First off, take a shower beforehand. It's just polite not to be smelly when a stranger has to touch your belly button. Also, make sure you're fully hydrated and have eaten at least a little something within the hour so you don't feel woozy during the process.
Your sweat is sterile to you, so shower like you normally do and clean the piercing afterwards with saline or sterile wound wash. Do not swim in rivers, lakes, hot tubs, pools, or oceans until your piercing is healed.
Don't eat spicy, salty or acidy foods or liquids while you are healing. Avoid hot drinks such as hot chocolate, coffee, and tea. Eat cold foods and drinks as they lessen swelling. Be extra careful when eating crunchy foods.

Fainting is quite a common reaction after having your ear pierced, but contrary to the popular belief that your surface nerves are shot, this symptom is usually occurred from the stress and fear that built up before the piercing process.
Call a doctor if any of the following occur during self-care at home: New or worse signs of an allergic reaction, such as swelling, hives, or itching. New or worse belly pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. New or worse signs of infection, such as redness, warmth, swelling, pus, or a fever.
Tight clothing can move the jewelry away from where it usually rests, causing irritation and discomfort. Avoid sleeping on your stomach with navel or nipple piercings. Keep other people's body fluids off your new piercing. Bodily fluids can contain bacteria, which can lead to infection.
Not Eating Beforehand or Fasting
It's advised that you eat a small meal at least six hours before being pierced. Not eating lowers your blood sugar and thins your blood so that you will bleed more than usual. Not to mention, low blood sugar might cause you to pass out more easily!
Avoid baths, hot tubs, swimming pools, saunas, lakes, etc. for the first three weeks after being pierced as they contain bacteria which can increase the risk of infection.
Placing a clean ice pack or a cold compress on a new piercing is a simple way to help relieve ear-piercing pain and reduce swelling. Use ice on the fresh piercing for no more than 15-20 minutes at a time for the first few days after getting your new ear piercing.
Eat/Drink: Always eat a meal at least two hours before heading in to get pierced! Do not drink a bunch of caffeine or energy drinks before coming in! It will thin your blood and make it harder to sit still. Medication: Pain relievers/ swelling reducers are best saved for after the piercing.

For the first few days up to the full 2 weeks, eating soft foods helps the piercing heal by not causing additional irritation or damage. Acidic, hot, spicy, and salty foods should be avoided because they can prolong the swelling or cause enough irritation for the piercing to bleed.
