Occasionally, your dentist may need to refit the denture base or make a new one using the teeth in the existing dentures. To ensure your dentures last, you should: Remove and rinse off dentures after every meal or snack. Never place dentures in hot water.
Soaking your dentures overnight is important for proper disinfection. Because older individuals and denture wearers both have higher levels of bacteria in their mouths, individuals in these groups need to be extra vigilant about keeping their teeth or dentures clean.
You should generally try to keep dentures in water when you are not wearing them. However, if you don't have a cup of water to store them in, they will be fine for a few days without being stored in water.
Not cleaning them regularly
Not only is this bad for your oral hygiene, but it could also make your dentures deteriorate more quickly. If you don't clean your dentures regularly, then it could harbour germs and bacteria that will continue to grow over time and cause your dentures to become worn and smelly.
There is no rule against brushing your dentures without removing them. Doing so is unlikely to cause any harm as long as you use a very soft-bristled brush and avoid abrasive cleaning agents.
You can use proprietary denture cleaning tablets or solutions ( eg. Steradent) to help loosen and remove stains and deposits. However, you should avoid leaving the dentures in the solution overnight. A 10-minute soak once or twice a week should be sufficient.
Toothpaste is not intended to be used for denture cleaning and as a result can actually be harmful to your dentures. Opt for a denture cleanser and brush instead.
Generally you should wear your dentures for at least 8 hours a day. This will give your gums and jawbone time to get used to the dentures and prevent sore spots from developing. It is best to take them out at night so that your gums can rest. You should also remove them for eating, drinking, brushing and flossing.
Most types of dentures will lose their shape if they are not kept moist. Therefore, when you take your dentures out of your mouth at night, you should store them in a liquid-filled container. What kind of liquid? Many individuals use plain tap water or distilled water to soak their dentures.
Remove and gently clean your dentures daily. Soak and brush them with a soft-bristled brush and nonabrasive denture cleanser to remove food, plaque and other deposits. If you use denture adhesive, clean the grooves that fit against your gums to remove any remaining adhesive.
When cleaning or soaking your dentures, you'll want to avoid using hot water as it can actually cause your dentures to warp and become misshapen which can change their fit in your mouth. When cleaning and soaking, use cold water to protect your dentures and keep them comfortable.

Keeping your gums nice and healthy is crucial for your overall health and ensuring that your dentures fit and stay put. Even though there may not be any teeth along the gumline, you still need to maintain a habit of gently brushing your gums, tongue, and roof of the mouth to remove plaque and bacteria.
It is possible to harm your oral health if you leave your dentures in for a long time. Plaque is more likely to accumulate on dentures and tongues of people who wear dentures all night long. You are more prone to gum disease, oral thrush, and bone loss if you wear your dentures for a long period without removing them.
Polident Dentu-Creme
The toothpaste is safe for metals, so it can be used on dentures and partials. This product is specially formulated to clean dentures and partials outside of the mouth. Clean over a sink half-filled with water and a soft-bristled brush to prevent damage if dropped.
Using Polident 3 Minute Daily Cleanser
Drop one tablet in enough very warm water (not hot) to cover the dentures. Soak for 3 minutes or overnight.
Before placing food in the mouth, bring the teeth together and swallow. This will help to seat the denture fully. Then place small bites of food in the mouth and chew it slowly on the side that seems the most natural and comfortable. Try to move the jaw in a straight up and down motion.
Many people who wear dentures struggle with sticky foods, such as chewing gum. If you are worried about your dentures slipping, swapping your chewing gum habit for no-sugar breath mints is a good way to keep dentures securely in place. You can also use mouthwash after meals to freshen breath as an alternative to gum.
Use a non-abrasive denture cleaner, not toothpaste. Be careful not to scrub too hard as this may cause grooves in the surface. Make sure you brush all the surfaces of the dentures, including the surface that fits against your gums.
Soaking or cleaning your denture in mouthwash containing alcohol may make it bacteria-free, but it will also damage the acrylic base of your denture.
Use a soft bristle toothbrush and simple dish soap to brush all the surfaces of the denture. Anything more than dish soap may be too abrasive and scratch your dentures causing even faster build-up of odor causing bacteria.

It is safe to soak metal-based dentures in effervescent cleansers such as Steradent or Boots Effervescent/Double Action for fifteen minutes. Alternately soak in Dentural or Milton for ten minutes each evening.
